I'm trying to connect a computer in my garage with cat5 instead of using wireless, several walls and low signal.
Current setup: Cable modem to linksys wireless G router, cat5 to computer #1, cat5 to computer #2 in living room.
I'm trying one of the dual connections like goes in a wall jack, male/2 female and a coupler. I disconnected the cat5 from the living room computer and plugged it into the coupler and plugged the adapter into the other end of the coupler and ran 1 cat5 to living room computer and 1 to garage. The computer in the living room will not access the internet this way. The computer in the garage is not connected yet. If i disconnect the cat5 going to the garage it will access the internet from either port of the adapter. But once i reconnect the one going to the garage, no access. I'm using all straight cables, no crossovers. Anyone tried this or have any info/suggestions.
Hopefully i explained it well enough.
Thanks

Use a switch, these awfull couplers cost as much as a switch.
