Turn your Window 7 laptop into a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Connectify is a free Windows 7 to turn your Wi-Fi enabled personal computer into a wireless hotspot to share your Internet connection, and create wireless networks on the fly with your friends, co-workers and other devices. Connectify can even share Wi-Fi which you are currently connected to with a single Wi-Fi card.

This is the first production ready release. We believe that we have fixed all of the issues that were seen in testing. Some older wireless cards do not yet have full Windows support, and for those devices Connectify will act as an Ad Hoc connection manager, instead of a full blown Wi-Fi Access Point.
Software-based Wireless Router
Take any internet connection and share it wirelessly with no additional hardware.
Connect with Mobile Devices
Easily connect any number of WiFi enabled devices to your mobile network.
Built for Windows 7
Built for the next generation of Windows machines, in both 32 and 64 bit versions.
What's New:
Version 1.0.0.13874
Changes since Beta 4
* Improved Notification tray icons (including a warning icon if the selected Internet connection is not currently working)
* Support for even more wireless cards and configurations
* Improved memory and CPU management
* Recover from sleep/hibernate
* Support for machines where multiple users install Connectify and log on at same time
* Ability to remove clients from the Client History list (right click to get menu)
* Autohiding of the Mode box. By default we hide the "Mode" box to choose between AP or Ad Hoc mode. If your wireless card supports both, then we default to Access Point mode. To keep the mode box visible, there is an option on the Option menu (right click on the Connectify logo to show the menu).
* Fix device capability detection

So I assume the only reason this is useful is if you have one of those phone cards and want to share the connection with others?

I guess you could make your laptop act as a repeater but I doubt the antenna strength is very good.

Interesting if it can identify itself as an Infrastructure-AP in the beacons and management frames. Normally that is a function of the radio itself and not any software or drivers.

There are many different modes a radio can operate in like ad-hoc, Bridge-root, bridge-nonroot, workgroup bridge, infrastructure AP, etc.

"free airport wifi"

Even better. Open it up at the airport or coffee shop, use an SSID of the place you're at. Since you're the gateway just run a transparent proxy and capture all their stuffs for a perfect man in the middle.

I camp a lot and I was thinking of using my phone on my sons computer (it has 7) then connecting to AT&T and then using my sons laptop as the wifi. As is now only one of us can get on now.

Camping and bringing along a laptop and the internet just seems wrong.

FAIL

You don't camp alot if you need intarweb to survive. Let alone power. No matter, this just gives me yet another tool to exploit your internet usage, people are stupid.

No we have a popup and still use the (ugh) public restroom and showers. What is funny is seeing our little 12 foot popup next to $100,000 50 ft. motor home.
