Connected at 115,200???

Ok, I give up....

Windows reports "connected at 115,200" when I right click the connection icon(??) in the system tray after dialing in to my isp. I know this is not even remotely close to reality for my 56k Actiontec modem. Any ideas on how to fix this problem, or an alternative means of getting the true speed? Thanks.

in the connection wizzard you could specify maximum speed as 56k if you wanted, however I don't really see the problem...

This kind of thing usually happens when you have a generic modem or the drivers aren't very good. The only way to get it to accurately show the connection speed is to get new drivers. It doesnt always just happen with generic modems though, my friend's Diamond SupraExpress has always done it.

It's not that critical, but I would like to compare my connection speed against my old modem. I haven't checked the actiontec website for an updated driver. I'll do that now. Thanks.

Check around for some additional init strings. Some modems will display the true connection speed by adding a W2 or S95=3 to the init string.

That isn't actually the connection speed; that's the speed of the COM port that the modem is on.
Try this to do a comparison. It won't be a definite test of your actual speed, but it might provide a good comparison.
