Just got mine. I ran the the fill rate tests in 3dmark 03 before installing the softmod, and my multi-texture score was around 1033. I then uninstalled my drivers, and made a backup of the original ati2mtag.sys file, then deleted all the copies of the file on my system. I installed the 3.6 Cat drivers with the wizzard hacked file. Then ran the fill rate tests in 3dmark 03

Results:
-----------
Single-Texturing: 1331.5 MTexel/s
Multi-Texturing: 2013.9 MTexel/s

No artifacts, no checker board. Money well spent 😀.
 
Hi, what is the best way to oc my radeon 9500np? Right now I have the softmod applied w/ no artifacts. I have the connect3d card from newegg with the 3.3ns Infineon mem chips. Also, I don't know which bios to download out of these.
 
fedex just delivered mine.........gonna try softmod rite now.....will post results........if i can figure this out since this is the first time im doin something like this.......will have to get some bechmarking software too i suppose..

I didn't download any of the modified BIOS'. I just used RadClocker to overclock the card.

I used 3DMark 03 with default settings. I tested the 9500 NP and my 9700 Pro. The 9500 overclocked and running the softmod actually scored higher than my 9700 Pro.

all scores use cat 3.6 drivers

9500 stock speeds: Core-276 Memory-270
9500 overclock speeds: Core-331 Memory-291

9500 3DMarks:

stock: 2773
overclocked: 3149
wizzard softmod only: 4089
wizzard softmod & overclocked: 4666
---------

9700 Pro stock speeds: Core-324 Memory-310

Yea, the back of the box says:

Features at a glance - 64MB DDR Memory

but..

on the side corner of the box there's a sticker that says:

ATI Radeon 9500 128MB DDR DVI+TV

When you open up your advanced display options it says 128MB, and it says 128MB in 3DMark, as well.

 
just got home in time to tweak this new card. I ran the omega "tweak factory". After rebooting, I ran the rivatuner. The description still says 9500, but it reports as- 256 bit R300 (8x1) with 128 mb memory. Now isn't the computer seeing it as having the other 4 pipes enabled? Even though it is reported as a 9500, isn't the card performing as a 9700?
 
The easiest way to see if the card is performing as a 9700 is to run 3dmark. You'll score in a considerably higher range if the mod has worked.
 
In XP's desktop/adapter properties it'll show 9700 in "adapter properties" underneath "adapter type" if the modded drivers are installed properly.

No luck for me with this card. 1/4th the screen shows artifacts.
 
Right now I'm at 325core and 300mem w/ no artifacts. I can't believe I only spent 133 on a Radeon 9700 PRO!!! WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! I love overclocking. BTW, sorry to the guys whose card didn't softmod, I was just lucky. Anyway, is there any reason to apply the 9700 bios to my card?
 
Here's something to think about, for you guys that have a 9500np card that doesn't work with the mod.. Is it possible to UNDERclock the GPU to ~ 250 and see if it works with the mod? Even though performance would not be 9700, it still might be pretty good.

Is this possible to do this with an OC utility? Has anyone tried this?

Just a thought?

Nice idea, but since people have been modding 9500s since January, most of these kinds of suggestions have been tried and debunked. I've personally read about freezing the card, underclocking the card, overclocking the card, overvolting the card, trying alternate BIOSs, trying alternate drivers, disabling Hyper Z, etc. It's a good idea to try everything (but freezing, LOL), but don't get your hopes up. When the pipes are bad, they're just bad.

I had a 9500 that modded with one bad pixel. It was bearable, but I've since moved on to a 9800 because I was afraid future games may bring out more artifacts. If I had a perfect card, there is no way I would have "ugraded" to a 9800.

During the 9500 > 9700 mod thingy, I've been using a Ti4200, so I guess I missed a good thing while it lasted. If I had one of these though, I think I would give everything a shot. Didn't think of putting it in a freezer though! LOL

Anyone tried ordering from these guys. I'm not to sure if the black PCB's work as well as the Red PCB ones. What color are some of your Connect3d boards?
 
The color does NOT matter. It has been said over and over in this forum and the fatwallys forum and all the tech forums where the drivers come from. What matters is the 128mb memory in the correct layout.

Was very simple. All I did was install the omega drivers from omegacorner.com You don't have to hack anything. They install themselves. I will report back after I try some overclocking.
