Connect Xbox to internet w/o router?

I've got an Xbox 360 and I'd like to hook it back up to the internet. At my old apartment we had wireless DSL and I used a wireless bridge to hook it up (too cheap to buy the $100 wireless adapter).

I just got married and at our new place we have wired cable internet. Is there anyway to get the Xbox online w/o buying a router? Can I connect it directly to my PC? I don't think I can run the wireless bridge from the cable internet box to the Xbox directly (tried it)...

Any ideas? Am I gonna have to break down and buy a router (being newly married has decreased the funds).

Thanks!

I suppose you might be able to run a cross over cable from the computer to the xbox and run Internet Connection Sharing

Can you manually set static TCP/IP info on the xbox? If so, I don't see why this wouldn't be possible.

I think you can manually set the IP, not positive though. How do I enable internet connection sharing?

Been busy and haven't had a chance to try it yet. Question though, with the cable modem connecting to my only ethernet port how do I connect the wireless bridge? Or do I connect the 360 using something else?

I'm confused...

You have: A wired connection from the modem
A wired card on the PC
A wired port on the X-Box
A wireless bridge (that was connected to the xbox)

Assuming the above is correct, you need more hardware. To run ICS, you need 2 wired cards in the PC, one from the modem, the other to the XBox
To use the wireless adapter, you need something to produce the wireless signal. The easiest is a wireless router.

You could set up your XBox directly to the modem, and powercycle the modem whenever you move it from the PC to the XBox, but that also may not work without calling/authorizing that MAC to communicate on their network (not sure if this cable co does that).

Just throw a second NIC in your comp, make you a 'cross-over' cable, then plug it into your xbox, set the ip on both the NIC and the XBOX and you SHOULD be set. I used to do it all the time. You can login via FTP as well, but...don't remember all the tools needed, just google it or go to....

Not sure how to make a crossover cable.

And Weaver, originally I had a wireless DSL router that I had my wireless bridge hooked up to with the other end in the Xbox. Don't have a router anymore...using the Mobo's ethernet port although I might have an old card somewhere, I'll have to scrounge around and see...

I tried hooking the 360 straight to the modem, no luck there...

You usually have to pull the power on a cable modem between devices. Did you pull the power cord for a few seconds?

Hey Tyreal, as I think others have mentioned you can just throw a second NIC into your computer and enable ICS on the first connection (the one that is plugged into the modem). Then you just plug the Xbox into the second NIC, reboot all devices involved, and you should be good to go. You should not require anything besides two standard Ethernet cables.

This worked for me for a time when my router died.
