connect to HDD connected to a pc from another pc

connect to an external HDD connected to a pc from another pc.

my main pc is a Dell laptop which operates win 8.1.
This has an external HDD attached to it.

How can I access this external HDD from my other comp which runs on Win Vista home premium?

Please can anyone help me?

I've solved by adding the 2nd computer on to the network from the main pc.

Not sure how to show as solved.

Please assist if you're able.

Assuming there's little to no conflict with getting Vista and 8.1 to work together:

On your main PC, right click on the external drive and select Sharing from the menu; the wizard will take you through the steps of setting the ext. HDD as a shared network resource.

As far as how to show the thread question as resolved, you can edit the thread title or just edit your OP to show it's resolved.
