Yeah, but...

who wants to lower the resolution and eye candy when you can raise the resolution and eye candy? ;)

I would go for the 7800GT because of its superior performance at resolutions above 1600x1200, which you'll want with the FW900 in at least some games. At 2048x1536 for example, the 7800 will likely be almost twice as fast as the GTO. Also, the recent C3D GTOs don't appear to be unlockable anymore.

I do appreciate your imput, and I know this monitor isn't perfect, but it still seems like quite a lot of display for $325 shipped. Basically I could loose a lot of screen size and get a brand new 19" LCD, but even then a display like that isn't without problems, and the FW-900 has recieved some pretty nice reviews by forum members who have bought from the same seller.

That said if you have a 21" or larger CRT that you think is as good and equally priced, I would love to look at it. I just suspect that kind of quality will either be from another refurbished or used display, or require more $$$ than I want to spend.

I think that is actually an extremely good price considering what you're getting. There is definitely the risk of getting a dud unit when buying a used one, but that applies to pretty much all CRTs these days. New ones are not much better, if you can even find the good ones new anymore. I think several people here bought FW900s from that ebay seller you linked to in your other thread; some got great units and others had problems. The Mitsubishi 2070SB mentioned earlier is arguably the best out there overall but is very hard to find now, even used.

It was a sarcastic, rhetorical question. :frown:

My gf, for example, plays CoD2 at 1152x864 (or maybe even 1280x1024) on her 6600GT. Of course it looks like donkey poop; she'll be getting a 6800GS for xmas. :)

Which is the exact reason why the 7800GT is the best card for the OP. I couldnt have said it better myself!!

Nobody will choose to play at 1024x768 if they can help it.

Yup. And I dont play at 10x7 either. But seeing how the new batch of gto's is supposedly not unlockable, the 7800gt is the card to get.

Thanks for all the posts everyone, you definately gave me a lot to think about, and all told I do believe the GTO (unlocked and OC'd) was at least the better choice for anyone who doesn't plan on going above 1280x1024. Circumstances have made the choice for me however, since the latest GTOs don't seem to unlock anymore. Guess it's time to start hitting up some 7800GT overclocking threads.
