Congressman Says He Was 'joking' With Nuke-Syria Suggestion

According to Roll Call, Johnson said he told the president: "Syria is the problem. Syria is where those weapons of mass destruction are, in my view. You know, I can fly an F-15, put two nukes on 'em and I'll make one pass. We won't have to worry about Syria anymore."

Just the kind of leadership we need in Washington.

And I have doubts about it being just a joke between 2 vets as he describes it. If so, why would he need to repeat it without a joke caveat to a group of non-veterns? He was either serious, or he was grandstanding as gung-ho hardass. Even though I don't believe him, my next question would be whether GWB found it funny.

Bolded section is the answer. typical politician.

People that have not experienced war many times think that nukes are an easy/simple answer. Concept of killing is not understood.

Yes, I'm 100% sure he really wants to nuke Syria. Meanwhile, back in reality...

I think he was voicing something often said in jest. His mistake was being stupid enough to say it where he could be quoted. It isn't like he is Joe Everydayman. He was a dipshit and got called on it. Other than that, I hardly see it as a threat to the world.

So, you're agreeing that it was said in jest? I typically think people are dipshits when they joke around.

Anyone who reads this obviously sees that he is joking - why does anyone even care that it was said? Ah, because it's some ridiculous anti-right propaganda. People really need to get a grip and come back to reality.

Yeah, I am saying he said it in jest. When you are in Congress it might be smart to keep your mouth shut sometimes though 😛

Why do people care about it? Because we expect a bit more out of our leaders. Unless Congress is just some big extended Frat House?

If you're really not just being a partisan hack and are genuinely that concerned, I strongly suggest not hinging your existence on every word that comes out of a senator or congressman.

I don't think I ever used the word Republican or Democrat in this post...anyhow.. The problem with the whole issue would be if there weren't people disgusted with it.

Our leaders need to have more restraint and compassion and intelligence than this guy has displayed.. and I will bet, knowing this IS America, that he is just a mirror image of many of his cohorts.

You need to quit insulting people and realize that you are holding our leaders to a very low standard because of the environment you SEE... and IMO - you do not see what is REAL

If pointing out the ridiculousness of your position is an insult, then I will continue to do so unless you can honestly tell me that, if I recorded everything you said in a given day, you wouldn't say a single stupid, offensive, or questionable thing. Oh, make that everything you said for several years. See, here in reality, people say stupid things, regardless of their stature. Becoming a congressman does not automatically make you a mature or perfect person. If that's so terrible to you, then I suggest offing yourself now because that's the way it always has been and it will only continue to get worse as society gets more and more in the business of every politician.

The more you excuse their behavior = the more you become just like them

Nice of you to tell people to commit suicide also.. stopped talking to God, eh?

The more you pretend that such behavior, which is common to all men, isn't inevitable, the more you look like an ass. Also, suggesting that you 'off yourself now' is a figure of speech, used commonly by those of us here in reality.

Your reality 😉 -- thank you.

that will be the end of my participation in this thread.

Johnson, 74, is a former Air Force combat pilot who served in Korea and Vietnam, where he was shot down and spent 7 1/2 years as a prisoner of war.
At around $40 million per copy, the Air Force could purchase four of the newest F-15 fighters for the cost of one F-22.
Heh...shot down in his prime, and now he wants to fly a $40 mil fighter at age seventy-four. Good luck footing the bill on that one, Yanks. 😛
