I like the lady who's Lexus accelerated to 100 mph, and finally slowed down "After six miles later, God intervened". I think I see the problem here, and I don't think it was her Lexus. Most of these people shouldn't be driving anything.

Not to go off topic or anything but.....

The vast majority of the worlds population believes in a god.

As bad as our government representatives looked when "drilling" the Toyota CEO, they were just down right embarrassing in how they went after the guy from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

These idiots in congress don't have a fucking clue what they are doing - but damn it if they will do their darnedest to express their "populist" anger...

One needs to understand there are a lot of law makers who have enticed Toyota to open factories in their states and have also accepted campaign contributions. What is little know is that Toyota spends a lot of money ($25 mil in last 5 years) and effort in lobbying Washington. If, in spite of such widespread lobbying and wooing by legislators, they are still grilling Toyota there must be other reasons too. Perhaps there is genuine anger at the way which Toyota has handled these problems? Maybe the number of deaths is increasing? Internal documents crowing of 'wins' when DOT only issued a recall of floor mats instead of looking deeper, do not make Toyota look good.

Just a few links I found after a quick search.

Haha how funny. God intervened for her but not anyone else. She's just a lucky SOB 😀.

might be interesting to track comments from congresstwats to which states have toyo plants...

or the pre-meeting went like this: 'papa-san, you will have to eat a little shit from these bastards so that we can keep making billions... don't worry though, once they find something else to grandstand about in a week or so all will be back to normal... just smile a little and say you are sorry a lot, and act like their stupid ranting doesn't translate well so you can't give any answers... and the senator sent over a blond, a brunette, and a redhead to the hotel for later..."...

Don't these congressmen have something better to do with their time? Less than 100 people died out of tens of millions and suddenly we have a crisis. This is what's wrong with America.

You are a crusty douchenozzle. You fail at justice, and life.

they need to put a sticker on the windshield of all cars that says "put the fucking thing in neutral, dumbfuck..."... i taught this to all my kids and my wife... i used to have throttles stick every now and then on my built chevys... chevy has always been able to just slap the auto stick into neutral...

I'd wager that if you randomly polled people, most americans of driving age don't even know what neutral does.

Today Toyota is public enemy #1. Tomorrow they'll move onto someone else to destroy.

Televised hearings are worthless. Every politician knows the cameras are there and with this big of a story they just can't help but try to look good for their constituents.

We see in with supreme Confirmations too and we'll see it tomorrow with the health summit. nothing really gets done every one just try to gain votes and look pretty for the cameras.

These "hearings" are loathsome displays of Congressional arrogance and pillorying.

Nominally, they are meant to explore topics of interest but they are mostly insulting posturing meant to demean and diminish.

To do so to a Japanese executive who came voluntarily to speak and offer apologies, as is their wont, is doubly offensive and uncouth.

Watching them posture is mostly a waste of time, but only in doing so will you gain true insight as to why the majority of the current crop of Representatives should lose their jobs in November.

Dead On. but what I really fear is that though these idiots are in ruling positions, they will continue to do so because of an even dumber class of idiots that continue to vote for them.

A voter should have to pass some kind of test to cast a vote.

THAT DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK, THERE ARE REPORTS OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS NOT ALLOWING THE DRIVER TO PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL. This has been known for a while. Putting it into neutral is not a panacea.
i believe my own experience, but maybe toyota's shit just sucks compared to chevy's...
Your own experience of a runaway Toyota? No, certainly not.

nope, my experience is with runaway chevys (modified engines/intake, but good old turbohydromatic transmissions)...

so we ought to cease the sale of these deadly toyota pieces of shit immediately...

and if you believe what some schmoe says after he's shit his pants because he panicked when something went wrong and now wants a big settlement then i have some nice, dry florida real estate to sell you...

Still confused I see. She was not looking for any settlement (she was not suing for any money), nor was she in any kind of trouble as the vehicle slowed down without her crashing.

I don't know if what people are claiming is true or not, but to simply dismiss it off hand without looking at the information available and making judgments on the drivers is stupid. The fact that it's been documented with many people in very different situations would lead one to think *something* is not right, but I nobody knows specifically how/what/when it happens. It's obviously very hard to recreate.

to me it's just as goofy to assume that out of millions of cars and drivers that you wouldn't have a statistically significant percentage of total fuckups... need to do the model for both sides...

i live in the broken things world... but i find that more errors are human than product overall...

Has this been verified, or is this just a claim? Most cars today have the throttle cable decoupled from the gas pedal to allow the computer to determine the amount of gas applied, but I've never seen an interlock preventing a transmission from being shifted into neutral. What would be the point?

The solution for the Audi was to switch off the ignition, which worked quite well. No spark = no power for Otto-cycle gasoline engines. Just have to not switch it far enough to lock the steering wheel!

Surely there are plenty of idiot drivers out there, but that still doesn't mean there isn't some problem. Your original post:
they need to put a sticker on the windshield of all cars that says "put the f*****g thing in neutral, dumbf**k..."... i taught this to all my kids and my wife...
There's plenty of information that indicates the drivers DID try just that, so your casting blame on them doesn't make sense. We don't know the extent of the issue, but I don't think there's much doubt that there is an issue, otherwise Toyota would not be recalling all the vehicles and they wouldn't be waffling about having the issue completely "fixed" at this point. Me thinks they know more than they are letting on.
