Congressional Budget Office - ObamaCare creates ‘disincentive’ to work

I wonder how democrats are going to twist this report.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...chief-obamacare-creates-disincentive-to-work/

The head of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office delivered a damning assessment Wednesday of the Affordable Care Act, telling lawmakers that ObamaCare creates a "disincentive for people to work," adding fuel to Republican arguments that the law will hurt the economy.

The testimony from CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf comes after his office released a highly controversial report that detailed how millions of workers could cut back their hours or opt out of the job market entirely because of benefits under the health law.

I think the 2014 and 2016 elections are going to reflect a time of voter discontent. While republicans are distancing themselves from women and gays, democrats are distancing themselves from working class voters.

There seems no real choice but to vote third party. Will 2014 and 2016 be the years for the rise of a third party, and not the tea party.

I wonder how many people are going to vote for the Libertarian Party out of frustration.

I believe the Obama administration has already given their "twist" on this, that it's a good thing because it means people now have more choices. This is certainly true, to at least some extent. Many people who kept full-time jobs solely to have health insurance are now free to launch their own business, switch to part time work, or even retire thanks to the ACA. I've known a lot of people who were in that boat, including myself at one point in my career.

That said, I've not read the CBO report, so I don't know how their numbers break down. The real question is the ratio of people who are choosing to cut back or leave their jobs vs. those whose employers are cutting their hours. No doubt the Obama take is accurate for many people. I think that's good for the economy overall. If people who don't really need to work leave their jobs, it opens up more opportunities for the unemployed. Unfortunately, some of those openings may be needed for people who have to take a second part-time job because their employers cut their hours.

I'm confused.

FoxNews told me Obamacare would result in millions of people being fired, because businesses would become bankrupt, or have to fire their employees,.. now, the employees don't want to work??

Ruh-roh, people with leukemia may no longer have to work to keep their insurance and not die. This spells disaster for the country, no doubt.

Didn't you hear? Countries with universal healthcare are in ruins, so, you HAVE to work to get treated for health issues.

Yes, true. Americans have stronger immune systems than Europeans because we allow the untreated sick to walk amongst us. That's what makes America strong. That's what makes America great.

Hooray, Democrats have found a way to somewhat mitigate the adverse impacts of their own WW2 policy of linking healthcare subsidies to employment. All that it required was completely fucking over everyone who does have a job to subsidize those like Daverino cited so they don't have to work anymore but can still get full treatment at taxpayer expense. That's certainly quite the incentive for me to work harder, knowing my extra production won't go into my pocket but rather will ensure someone else who doesn't bother to work can get their healthcare paid for by tax withholdings. Wouldn't want the terrible decisions that get them hurt and on Failblog to be second-guessed by the knowledge that they may be bankrupted if they say YOLO and "Hey y'all, watch this!"

I have learned from reading this that liberals will work less because they won't need to in order not to die without healthcare and conservatives won't work as much because they don't want any of their income to go to help keep others alive. I wonder which of these groups wants the other to die.

Another interesting effect of this is that it is going to raise the wages of people who work and conservatives are going to have to pay more taxes anyway. They will doubtless turn down the raises.

Once again we have a case of clown car politics.

If we could have two clowns from each party, say Bippy and Dippy, beat each other senseless with giant inflatable hammers, it might be worth the ignorance. Maybe.

What's strange is that this in many ways was one of the exact points of the law. You don't want people clinging to jobs simply because they can't quit due to the inability to get health insurance on their own.

This is a feature, not a bug.

Nobody wants anyone to die.

Of course you don't. That's why you have a brain defect. You don't want anybody to die, you just vote to insure they do and are too brain defective to notice. You operate on gut instinct with a low level of information and no training in critical thinking. When you look at a massively complicated issue like health care and the economic consequences of various tweaks to it you are lost as to implication. This is why your notion that we are all bigots is such brain defective rot. As a pin head you attempt to claim the same intellectual capacity as people who have trained themselves to use it.

You don't have the standing, intellectually or by education to make heads or tails out of the healthcare issue. But instead of being modest and accepting that fact, you have to inject your stupid ego as if you had something worthwhile to say. Now you may get all wound up about this but the fact is that I don't know anything either, difference being, I know it.

You are one sad person.

Cherishing life is somehow a brain defect?

How many times did your mom drop you on your head? It appears a bunch too many.

The Congressional Budget Office released a major study of the government’s budget and its effect on the overall economy over the next 10 years. In dull bureaucratic language, it delivers a devastating analysis of the inefficiencies, ineffectualities and problematic social costs of ObamaCare.

The one-two punch: Virtually as many Americans will lack health coverage in 10 years as before the law was passed — but 2 million fewer will be working than if the law hadn’t passed.

One killer detail comes on Page 111, where the report projects: “As a result of the ACA, between 6 million and 7 million fewer people will have employment-based insurance coverage each year from 2016 through 2024 than would be the case in the absence of the ACA.”

ObamaCare’s key selling point was that it would give coverage to a significant number of the 30-plus million Americans who lack it. Now the CBO is telling the American people that a decade from now, 6 million-plus of their countrymen won’t get health care through their employers who otherwise would have.

Even more damaging is this projection: “About 31 million nonelderly residents of the United States are likely to be without health insurance in 2024, roughly one out of every nine such residents.”
Thanks Obama. I wonder how he manages to tie his shoelaces in the morning.

Gee, I never thought a right wing opinion columnist would write something against the ACA, I never thought he would have to dishonestly distort facts to make his case, and I CERTAINLY never thought gullible people like boomerang would come here to repost it. You keep showing conservative opinion leaders why their contempt for your intelligence is well placed.

For example, he claims that roughly the same number of people are projected to be uninsured in 2024 as are today as if its a sign of failure. He of course neglects to mention that because of population growth this will actually mean an additional 20 million people will be insured that wouldn't be otherwise.

Don't even get me started about how conservatives are desperately trying to spin the fact that people don't have to be locked into jobs for health insurance reasons like it's a bad thing.

I swear, these idiots will swallow anything.

You just spun the number to make them look favorable to you. "Look Obamacare got insurance for 20 million people". Great, there are currently 45 Million uninsured. Any way either side wants to spin it the ACA is an 11,000 bill whose main purpose was to bring insurance to those who were previously uninsured that in reality won't even reduce that number by half.

Talk to the CBO. You know that non-partisan entity you fawn all over when they say things you like? And speaking of desperation, my god man, you're going to have to start wearing a helmet to protect you from the dizziness you're experiencing from all this spinning. We have a failed program, conceived by failures and implemented by failures and all it cost was a ton of money, and a lot of people their jobs. You wanted it and it sounds like you're not going to get it. Get used to it.
