Yep, not a joke (well, the bill at least) they really are getting ready to vote on "The ______Act of____". What does this bill do? What, you can't divine that from the name? Well, apparently the name matches the text. Has has been for everything from an aviation protection bill to funding for Katrina victims.

Seriously congress, this is ridiculously lazy. To pass a bill without a name, or a real purpose. And for what, to justify their own jobs?

(I searched, didn't see it as a repost)

Oh the humanity, congress forgot to name the bill? Why is it some corruption act is always named a reform bill.

Cheer up, at least no one can claim false advertising this time.

But as they say, as long as the legislature is in session, no one's property is safe.

Must be pretty important _____ for the House to come back early. Pay raise, perhaps?

The issue isn't so much that they forgot to name the bill (How can you do that anyways? How do you even discuss an unnamed bill?) It is indicative of the lazyness they have towards the laws they pass in general. They have no clue what is going into their bills or what a specific bill will end up being about in the end (Boat Hulls in the DMCA...)

The fact that very few people actually know what this bill entails (especially in what it is design to tax or regulate) just provides more ammo to the idea that the Fed has turned into this monstrous form of government which spawns more tendrils of control then it realizes.

As with most bills... it is imperative they pass. This way everyone can know what is in the bill. Finally someone in our Government figured this out. I commend that person as they must be a genius and we are lucky to have them in public service.

Now on to just passing everything.

Bills are self-aware and self-motivated in their specification; further to the post above mine, they are not to be understood until passed.

It is sad that I have to ask this, but do we know what is in the bill, or is there text somewhere that we could find out? I would love to make fun of the government, but I want to know what they did in a bill with no name.

Where? Certainly not here.

This is the education bill.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.1586:

It started out as a tax on bonuses for those that receive TARP money.
Changed to a FAA saftey improvement bill.
Changed back into the TARP bill.
Got some extra crap tagged onto it.
Changed back into the aviation bill.
Changed back into the TARP Bill.
And then changed into the education bill....

I'll never forget when I was invited to the Georgia Legislature after they passed a law for me when one of the Legislatures told me their sole existence was to pass as many laws as they humanly can.

What law was that? The "Padded Cell Reinvestment" Act? The "No Whacko Left Behind" Act?

So? What are you going to do about it?

Complain, bring it to the attention of others, and if my congressman/senator was in charge of making the bill (no necessarily voting on it.), vote for someone else.

Thats just about all I can do (short of running for office, which, I don't have enough $ to do).

Government goes to hell in a handbasket and that is the best you can come up with? This revolution is off to a weak start. Foreigner flies into a building and it starts a war. Citizen flies into a building and it's just a footnote in the news. People only ever seem to want to do anything if it means blowing someone else's neighborhood up.
