One bill for thee, one bill for me.

Congress's Exemption from Obamacare

Make Congress get insurance the same way the little people do? Hill denizens howl in fury.

Read the article for confirmation of just how broken Washington is. These idiots are practically brawling with each other. All so that they don't have to live by the same rules they've foisted on us.

This happens all the time with anyone in power. The rules don't apply to them, they will put rules in place to harm others in order to keep their power. The sad part is you will get a large number of people defending their actions.

In 2009, Senator Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) decided that the principle deserved to be embedded in Obamacare, and he was able to insert a provision requiring all members of Congress and their staffs to get insurance through the Obamacare health exchanges. “The more that Congress experiences the laws it passes, the better,” said Grassley.

LOL! I can just imagine all the whining, crying, feet stomping that went on once most of the dumbasses realized that they'd have to get stuck with the same shit they just wanted to foist on the serfs!

"What? Wait a minute, no! This shit is for the stupid peasants, not for us!! NO FAIR!!"

Of course these clowns are going to try and wiggle out of it, and what's more they'll have the full support of their cheerleaders among the serfs who will sacrifice everything to make sure their precious government masters are comfy. Most can't even figure out how it shows even the very government clowns they're cheerleading for know full well that obamacare is a load of shit if they're so gung-ho to get away from it.

Well - not with ANYONE in power. The Republicans in 1995 passed a law forcing Congress - for the first time - to live under all the laws they pass for the rest of us.

How many times are you going to peddle this exemption as something it isn't?

This exemption bullshit is rightwing conspiracy nonsense. Both congressional staffers and congress are rquired to use the exchanges. For staffers however, they will not be eligible in any way for subsidies or tax credits. But they don't lose their current employer contribution.

boomerang: Although this article is correct, it fails to mention (due to print time) the OPW did NOT issue an exemption for congress. They will be purchasing ins via an exchange.

I believe they were going to be purchasing insurance via the exchanges either way. The question was the subsidy - Obamacare says they are not allowed to be paid a subsidy. (Or if you prefer, the "employer contribution" - though it's telling that if you're a federal government employee "contribution" is what the government gives you whereas for the rest of us "contribution" is what the government takes.) Obama directed the OPW to continue paying the subsidy even though the law says they cannot not. The OPW punted, not willing to defy Obama but also not willing to break the law, and decided to make each Representative and Senator responsible for deciding the staffer's status. That way the OPW is merely honoring the status set by someone else.

I think this is merely another thing that was added to give political cover with no intention of honoring. Considering that the poison pill for the Republicans was the federal government's take-over, wasn't really much point in adding it in the first place.

Yes they will. The fight is over whether they will be subsidized for it. It's all there in print.

And thanks for being civil unlike some progz in the thread that only think they know what the post is about. Not looking very bright boys. Try reading some time instead of knee-jerking.

The employer contribution is the same contribution they are recieving right now. Either you can raise their pay to compensate for the loss, or let them recieve the same amount they would recieve if Obamacare wasn't inacted.

Would you also like your employer to stop contributing to your healthcare coverage?

Lol! Doubling down on stupid I see. What facts do you have that support "congress exempt from Obamacare"? What facts do you have that support congress not getting healthcare like the "little people"?

As far as being civil...lol, you get what you serve.

Oh, I've got it now. You're too ignorant to understand that the title I used for the thread is the title of the article - not something I made up. Do you understand why it's important in this Forum to use the title of an article or news story as it stands? You do know that people have been banned for making up their own titles, right?

You also didn't understand that the sentence containing the words "little people" is a quote from the article. It's why those words are in that gray band under "Quote:"?

So, I'll hold your hand a little more. Your issue with those words, those sentences is something to be taken up with the author of the article. Got it?

Further, the last two sentences in the OP are mine. The sentences where I express disbelief in how our esteemed Senators act towards one another? Which BTW, was my sole purpose for the post. Those two sentences are the only part that belong to me.

Now, I do understand that there were a few prog dog whistles in that article. You had a choice to react to them in a half-cocked highly partisan manner or ignore them. You chose the former and as is typical for progz, you've blamed me for your reaction. That shit just never gets old.

This should be used as a case to fix the system.

Fire every single one of those crooks. Democrat, Republican, Tea Party, Liberace Party...whoever. Fire them all. Impeach them, recall them, whatever it takes.

Our country is broken because of these people acting like this. They no longer represent us, they only serve to divide us.

Look in my sig at the Article V link. We can't fix a system this broken through conventional means. The very people that we need to remove from power make the rules. We need to change the rules. We have the power to do so. The people do. It's all up to us. Bitching about it isn't going to get it done. We need to get actively involved.

Speaking of short-bus riders, here is a thread already dedicated to this subject and looky who has the third post in it.

BTW I did read the article, which is why I mentioned you peddling this as something it's not. It's not an exemption from Obamacare. Your title transparently tries to sell this as if Congress is completely exempting themselves from Obamacare, not surprisingly just like the original thread did.

Yes, the title of your post matches the misleading title of the article. So which is it? Did you not realize that the article didn't support the title or did you purposefully continue the cycle of propaganda?

Oh wait wait wait, you are surprised that Senators are acting this way towards one another and THAT is the sole purpose of this thread. LOOOOOOLLLLLLLL. Because the partisan divide isn't larger than it's been in recent history. Congressmen haven't been at each other's throats for the last 5 years. I'm sure it's all really fresh and exciting for you.

Rudder read the title, rudder didn't read the thread, Rudder didn't read the article, Rudder will now tell everyone who will listen IRL that Congress wants to exempt themselves from Obamacare. Thread mission accomplished.

I think Obama should reach out to Republicans by pushing for an Obamacare exemption for congress. Imagine how happy they would be if they could write this headline and finally have it be accurate.

No I did not read the article. And I do ignore most of the liberal drivel. The members of congress did not even know if the law would allow them to keep receiving subsidized premiums now that they would have to use exchanges. Obama was forced to tell the the Office of Personnel Management that this would continue.

So I stand by what I wrote. Maybe the people who voted on this catastrophe should have read all the provisions.

This is not the first "after the bill passed" correction to the law to fix something that was overlooked and would have negatively affected our dear members of congress.
