Congratulations to Florida. US eradicated measles in 2000 and now in 2024 we have an outbreak.

Thanks to anti-vaxxers and the state of Florida what was old is new again and that state is ground zero for today’s measles outbreak. DeSantis quack as the Chief health official isn’t even telling parents, kids with measles should stay home.

Lol yup the nut job quack of a Dr, I’ll leave it up to the parents to decide if they’ll infect the rest of the school.

This is gonna make the “your mama so dumb” jokes too easy.

Kids will be made fun of because of their scars and others will tie their parents low IQ to them because of it.

When walking down the street and two people who had measles look at each other, they will both simultaneously say, “your parents were idiots too?”.

Measles can cause birth defects. That "person" needs to be protected. No?

Of course but that’s irrelevant to my point which is that Republican policies will make it easier for people to say, “that person had stupid parents”.

Boomer parents think measles is like the flu. They had it as children, so why shouldn't everyone else?
That's the "healthcare" mentality we are dealing with here.

I had a mentally handicapped brother. One of his community friends was mentally handicapped because his mother got measles when she was pregnant, and my point was the personhood issue. Not getting vaccinated should be treated they way they want to treat drug addicted mothers.

Maybe Zika transmissions have been severely underreported down there and you’re actually dealing with a horde of Florida-Men with Zika IQ’s?

Well, eliminated it anyway. It was never eradicated.

Anti vax holy rollers and QAnon cultists just don't care, see covid19. Tribal identification is more important to these culture war pissheads than anything, certainly the wellbeing and lives of children.

Just got my youngest vaccinated on Monday; MMR, TDAP and RSV. So proud of him, little guy had a sore arm but told me he was 'glad to get some important buffs,' because "being really sick sucks a butt."

Good, we need more dead kids. America has become godless, we've forgotten the likes of war, pestilence, and famine.

A healthy helping of anti-vaxers suffering the consequences of their own actions is ok by me.

Feel bad for the kids though, but I guess they should have picked better parents.

A preview of what a balkanized USA will look like (don't get me wrong, blue states will have their specific set of problems, everyone will be miserable).

But yeah, this kind of stuff will be common in red states and compounded by the brain drain of healthcare workers that inevitably will happen after a split.

Can someone explain to me how and why vaccines have become intrinsically tied in with populist right wing politics and religion in the US?

It’s all about sowing distrust in our institutions. When you do that people become more open to alternative ideas where others can more easily exploit them.

Yep, the payoff for decades of effort, a group of people who aren't even aware of how manipulated they are. Fertile ground for authoratarian shit heads.
