what is IEEE 1394? the new computer i just got says its got IEEE 1394 support on the USB outputs. but the usb looks the same. huh?

so how come the actual connector is a USB output?

and is it firewire 400 or 800? i'd have to get a converter, right?
 
It isnt a usb connector. Look closer. Unless you hooked the usb thinger into firewire it does look different.
