Confused...who locked this thread?

It allows somebody to get a great deal on a car....how is it not a Hot Deal? I definitely can't sell or trade those certificates...either.

No different than a coupon code you might see for an online retailer....

It went over pretty good THE LAST TIME I DID IT....as well

If it's akin to a coupon....Maybe this is why (taken from the Hot Deals description).
ost the hottest prices and deals you've found on the net in the AnandTech Hot Deals forum. Please stick to deals you've found, not items you are seeking. This is NOT a shopping service. No dealers and no SPAM (IE: multi-level marketing, pay-to-surf, pay-for-referral schemes or links to auctions) allowed! Please DO NOT POST COUPON NUMBERS or PROMOTIONAL CODES.

That just means the mods failed to lock it last time. It's a Hot Deal for 2 particular people, the ones who get in on the deal. It could also mean what Azraele referred to. I'm not a mod so I'm just stipulating possibilities. More than likely you won't get a mod to respond back exactly why it was locked.

OK.....

But can you tell me why they are allowing a guy to sell his 21" monitors is the hot deals area when they should be in the for sale forum?

Piss-poor inconsistent moderation. I can't say I'm suprised since this is AT.

What is a Hot Deal? Here are a few examples:
A discount coupon on a vendor's site.

Info about a good "price match + rebate" situation.

Links to store ads and reposts of store ads, especially if they contain a really great deal. You might include a "heads up" about the specific deal in the thread title and/or your post.

Any nice premium deals, as long as those taking advantage are in the intended group. If a company wants to survey Senior Network Administrators, or if they offer a discount to retail sales employees, and you are in the tenth grade, you probably do not qualify. It is a good idea to point out such limitations in your post.

No idea how that GM deal does not fit in there....

Link? And if you don't like it, go back to whatever small hole in the wall, easy to moderate forum you frequent.

You notice not once in that text does it mention an individual offering a hot deal to people who want to take advantage of these coupons or whatnot that you keep getting for whatever reason.

Could be because, with over 100,000 members, if everyone gets to post coupons they have to give away there would be no room for deals. Best Buy, Dell, Staples, and Office Depot snail mail coupons come to mind as just a few that could be offered. Then there are "friends and family" ones necessary for those events and I sometimes get ones for $500 off on a car or furniture etc, etc, etc.

Why, can you point us to a forum with good mods to compare ours to?
