Confused By Low Profile Adapter Bracket

Ugh this is embarrassing, but I am trying to install an ATI4650 low profile in the 2nd computer in my signature (swapping out the GTX 260 which I will sell). As it stands now I cannot push the card into the PCI-E slot because the bracket is too short and blocks my ability to do so. The card came with a worthless manual and Sapphire's website blows. There to appears to be a regular profile adapter but I have no idea how to use it. Am I supposed to pop off the bracket currently on the 4650?

I may have solved the problem crudely by clipping off the metal bars blocking the card from the outside if that makes any sense.

I have just installed about 15 of these low profile cards into work SFF pc for dual screen goodness.
Of course the 1st thing I had to do was remove the full profile bracket, unscrew the the spacers which hold the DVI-I output, and there should be 1 other screw which is the brace which screws to the PCB itself. The low profile does not have these screw so just the DVI-I output spacers...
All of my cards came with the full profile bracket attached...are you putting in a full profile slot or is the PCIe slot matching up with small form factor?

That doesn't sound very safe -- the video cable could partly pull the card out of its socket if the bracket is not secured properly.

Like SolMiester says the bracket is attached to the card with screws. Unscrew then remove the low profile bracket then attach the full length bracket in its place.
