Hey Kevin,

Just FYI.... just on the CompUsa "GT" deal... There was a 30% off all PNY card sale a while back at Compusa. The General and some other forum members jumped on the deal quick (before the cards sold out) 30% off $399 retail price! + tax.

Great deal if you were lucky!

General, let's speculate a little:

Based on current benchmarks and feature sets of the newer generation of cards, how do you see the cards ranking in terms of HL2 performance? Do you think SM3.0 will make a differnence for Nvidia and close the gap in terms of performance?

XT > Ultra > GT = Pro > NonUltra > 9800s > 9700s > 9600s = 5900s

ATI won't allow it. ;)

if you cpu is 2500+ to 3.0ghz get 6800gt, because you wont see any performance advantage with x800xt
if you cpu is faster then x800xt is clearly the fastest card at the moment. x800xt is sometimes 30-40% faster than 6800gt. Doom 3 is somewhat important if you care about it more than HL2, stalker, etc. Suggesting to you to consider doom 3 performance beyond today (the engine will be incorporated into future titles) is somewhat argumentative. I tend to think someone spending $400-500 on a videocard buys them often and in 1 year, when the next game that uses doom 3 engine comes out, I am betting you'll have the newest card again....so go with the fastest right now for the games you play.

Most likely x800xt will be faster in HL2, stalker, rome: total war

This is my first message so i have no real credibility here but here goes anyways.

have you considered purchasing the x800 pro VIVO model instead of the x900xt PE. it seems that that card is far more comparable to the 6800 gt. the gt can be overclocked to ultra speeds but the x800 pro vivo is actually a rebadged x800xt at a lower price. it doesn't have the laser cuts on it so you can just reflash the bios on the card and open up the 4 extra pipelines and get the clock speeds. The comparison as it seems to me is XT=Ultra, PRO VIVO=GT, and PRO=6800np. those cards seem to be the closest in price and preformance.

I may be missing something but thats how i see things. If i'm wrong then just tell me.
