Confused about all this "Queen Mum" crapola

OMG thanks... 🙂

I was seriously not able to process all that crap, since I don't think I read an article that stated "Queen Elizabeth II's mother has died of yada yada yada..." They just keep calling her Queen Mum, which meant nothing to me 🙂

The Queen Mum who recently passed on was the 'formal' Queen if you would, until her husband died. Then the line of succession goes to the eldest child, which at the time is the current Queen Elizabeth. So the Queen Mum was no longer the actual Queen of England, but the mother of the Queen of England, but she was the Queen while her husband lived and was King.

Or something like that.

No, *sigh*

The eldest was a son, who gave up the thrown to marry an american divorced woman. The throne was then given to Elizabeth because the Queen Mum was not a blood family member.

Shit, forgot about that, yeah she was some twice divorced American chick.

Doh, can't believe I forgot that.

Edward VIII (1936) he was the one who ran off after 11 months of being king to shack up with Ms Wallace, the American divorcee. The throne was then passed on to George VI (1936-52) who was Edward VIII's brother.
George VI was married to the Queen Mother (Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon) and they had two girls (Elizabeth and Margret), the eldest being Elizabeth II (1952-present) who became Queen Elizabeth II when her father died.

"The eldest was a son, who gave up the thrown to marry an american divorced woman. The throne was then given to Elizabeth because the Queen Mum was not a blood family member."

You're mistaken, my Lord Corporate Recreation. You wrote a partially true story. Indeed, His Majesty then chose to abdicate the thrown than give up the divorcee love of his life. Nonetheless, it was not Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth who inherited the thrown immediately. It was her father who was the brother of the resigned King who inherited the throne. I believe Her Majesty's (Queen Elizabeth, that is) father was just a duke right before his brother abdicated the throne. And then when her uncle abdicated the throne, her father took over. When he died, then she automatically inherited the crown/throne for the reason you mentioned (i.e., the then Princess' mum (now Queen Elizabeth) was was not a blood family member).

Anyone can correct me if I'm mistaken somewhere. 🙂

You are correct Luvly, I pretty sure it was Edward who abdicated and George took over, and QEII is George's and the Queen Mum's daughter. The spouse of a King or Queen would have oppertunity to ascend to the throne, only the heir's to the throne

Of course, it's not like Edward VIII gave up too much...they made him govenor of Bermuda after he abdicated. 😀

she was just a spoiled old bag who had everything given to her in life, never had to work a day, lived off the taxpayers since the kaiser was in power, and everyone is supposed to give a crap? Not I.

BTW, it's "throne", not "thrown."

What are they teaching in public school now, anyways?

It's good to be (married to) the King!

D'oh! By the way it was a typo. Have not you been taught of typographical errors at private schools?

And by logic if one typed up the same word at least thrice correctly and the incorrect spelling appeared twice, which is more logical to infer?

I must have forgotten my usual edit button 'cuz I was busy elsewhere. However, if you wish to have a (oh! Did I say that? Oops! I really meant something else) pound of my flesh, I am known for editing for the slightest typo or spelling error I make. It's a tragedy I did not edit it this time to escape the wrath of a super-smart graduate much older than I. :Q

Thanks for bringing the typo to my attention, hon'. I'll fix it so you don't have to keep rolling your eyes, lest they get damaged; and so you don't assume I went to public school for my entire life! :Q His Majesty, shalt thou forgive me for my transgression against the Divine authority?

I went to public school, as well. I was being sarcastic . . . something you should have been able to recognize given the tone of your post, hon.

All right! I apologise, Xerox Man. I guess it might just be in my nature not to recognise all sarcasms. :Q Just watch out for me next time. 😉

In all honesty, thanks for the correction. I didn't even realise it until you brought it to my attention. I suspect it was my habit of typing without regards to what keys I pressed on the keyboard, especially as I am not a really good typist yet.

Thanks again for noting the error; and I apologise once again for not noting the sarcasm. 🙂

Sounds like someone's a bit envious! 🙂
