rap is selling faaaaaaar more now then it did in the days of ice cube, so i think it is fair to say it is far from death

It may be selling more, but that doesn't mean it's better.

That's not rap...Just a bunch of people talking while some dj spins records. Lot's of people buy Britney and Justin records too, does that make it good?

Thank god for you NFS4... it's outliers like you that help remind the world that black people don't HAVE to like rap music. Just as white frat boys don't HAVE to like DMB. Sometimes it's easy for folks to forget that.

l2c

P.S. I like some rap, just not mainstream stuff. I generally like the underground "thinker" rappers like Mos Def, Gift of Gab (from Blackalicious), Aesop Rock, Jurassic 5, etc.

Blacks dont have to like rap? I thought we did, thought it was a prereq

Hell, you guys would fall over if I said that I can't play basketball or dance (both true). I do have big feet though😛

Do you like Fried Chicken and hot sauce and big booty broads

Damn I love my fried chicken and fried pork chops 🙂 But I stay AWAY from hot sauce. As for big booties, my GF's postier is not big by any means, but it's noticeable. But I wasn't attracted to her because of that😉

ty for the suggestions NFS4, i will definetly look into that.

i liked jay's older stuff, but lately, havent been feeling his latest albums. but i like his new cd, and i like how he admits that he pretty much sold out and that he has respect for the underground cats for keeping it real.
I dumb down for my audience\ And double my dollars\ They criticize me for it\ Yet they all yell "Holla"\ If skills sold\ Truth be told\ I'd probably be lyricly Talib Kweli\ Truthfully\ I wanna rhyme like Common Sense (But i did five Mil)\ I ain't been rhymin like Common Sense

Bunch of haters around here

I don't particularly like Jay-Z either but you can't say he's not a damn good MC. I'd say he's one of the top out there right now. His music isn't exactly good or anything, but he can rhyme for sure. Anyone who says otherwise is just denying it on principle that they dislike his "objectification of women" or that his music is "condusive to violence" etc. Which is probably true but that doesn't make him a bad MC.

Didn't Poof Daddy quit a couple of times too? How many bands have done a "farewell tour" only to have a "reunion tour" three years later? Why don't these idiot, spoiled-brat "musicians" just be happy other idiots want to listen to their sh*tty music and be done with it.

I said it before, Jay-Z peaked with "Jigga My N*gga" -- I was all downhill from there.

John Mayer

Al Green
Marvin Gaye
Anita Baker
Coldplay
Eric Clapton
Ben Folds
Sarah McLachlan
Natalie Merchant
Stephanie Mills

...and various others
Elevator Music

Jay-Z is alright. I can live without him, though. JaRule on the other hand...why can't he disappear!!? 🙁
As for some of the backwards thinking on this board if NFS4 is supposed to love rap by virtue of being black then I should like country since I am white. In fact, I hate country music with ever fiber of my being. Different strokes for different folks.

two words: who cares???

this is my take on rap music. rap music main cateres to low- mid class blacks. basically these blacks are making a few blacks (rappers) rich, which they themselves are getting poorer as a whole.

Who is getting poorer as a whole, the rappers, or the mid class blacks like myself. Remember, most people that buy rap is white kids. THey are the only reason why these guys go platinum.

But we may get poorer trying to emulate them, buying Belvedere cause jigga rapped about it. etc. Waaay overpriced, wait im guilty of that too
lol

most people wouldn't know good music if it beat them against their head.
the only thing i hate equally to rap (tupac is only rapper i consider an artist), is alternate rock pop crap. its always the lame simple stupid 3-4 power chords.
blink182, sum41, etc.. generic crap !!!!!!!!!!!

keep the personal insults to yourself.
blacks are a large percentage of the US population.
how many blacks you know that go on the internet to download music?? they actually buy cd's. thats why its inflated with rap/hip hop.

R U in your own world. Many blacks that buy rap music, get the bootleg version or get off the internet. I know plenty blacks that do, so you dont know what your talking about. Whats up with the statement "how many blacks you know that go on the internet to download music"
Why can we?
And again, the reason why Jigga and all these other rappers are 5, 6 times plat is because of White suburban kids, not blacks

13% of the US is black. "large percentage"? I think not. Have you any evidence to back up your assertion that blacks don't download music and that they buy more CD's than whites or other minorities?
