I am bidding on something for the first time on ebay. In the auction I am bidding on it says do not bid if you have no evals. Why? Can he not sell the thing to me even if I win the auction?

I require that bidders who have 10 or less feedbacks contact me first before placing a bid.

Of course the majority of eBayers do not, so I cancel their bids with an explanation to read the freakin' auction.

if you've got time, you might want to email the seller and ask him if it's ok if you bid. Chances are he'll say it's fine. it can be for protection, and it can be to avoid dealing with new people who have no clue what's going on. It's insanely annoying when you sell something for very little money then have to invest so much time hand holding the buyer that you wish you had just thrown away the item instead.

a lot of people sign up for an eBay account and bid on something and never pay. It's sad but those that have taken advantage of the system have ruined it for others. Depending on what I sell, I too require that your feedback be more than 10. But then I've had guys sign up for an account, and on the same day use buy it now on my auction and pay before I get the e-mail from eBay saying the item was sold so.
