ok, im fairly new to wireless networking and have done a bit of research and still cant figure this out. i have two aps, one smc and one d-link. they are both wireless routers actually. what i want to achieve is to use the d-link as a router/ap and use the smc as a wired hub/ap. i want them to be on different channels so if one gets interference i can still get a signal from the other. i also read they should be on different channels so they dont interfere with each other. i disabled dhcp on the smc and enabled wlan. i assigned the same ssid for both units and put them on different channels. the d-link is 192.168.0.1 and the smc is 192.168.0.10. the d-link is assigning ips from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.20. all wired computers can connect to either unit just fine and get a valid ip and good ping times. my wireless laptop can only connect to the d-link and not to the smc. whenever a phone or anything interferes, it loses the signal and wont pick one up from the smc. i decided to test the wlan on the smc by disabling wlan on the d-link and trying to get a signal on the smc. for some reason it wont get one at all. i previsously used a wired router where the d-link was and had every other setting the same and i could connect wirelessly to the smc without a problem. so why is the smc no longer connecting to anything wireless? am i setting this up way wrong?
thanks.
thanks.
