So, anyone have any idea how to get the remote to bring up winamp and control the songs. I can't get it to work for aynthing; furthermore, the instructions are pure sh!t for setting up third party software w/ the remote... and i SURE KNOW i don't wnt to use creatives software for listening to music. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Does creative have a forum? I think they might. I've never looked for it, but it might help you if it exists :p

This is not guaranteed to work, but it's worth a shot:

Open up WinAmp.
Right-click on the player.
Go to Options -> Preferences -> General Preferences - Global Hotkeys.
Check the box for Enable.

Yes, I know the hotkeys appear to be intended for ctrl+alt hotkey combinations, but this is what I had to do to get WinAmp to recognize signals from my MS keyboard's media keys (the ones that look like the rewind, fast forward, play, stop, etc keys on a typical remote). The media keys on my keyboard work on the Creative MediaSource audio player too, so it's possible that these things are somewhat standardized and it'll work in reverse too (i.e. a Creative remote will work w/WinAmp). If you find that certain functions don't appear to work, then check to see what keyboard hotkeys the MediaSource player uses, then set the same mappings in WinAmp.

try intelliremote (freeware) from : http://melloware.com/download/

you must also install microsoft intellitype driver / software for the program to work, don't worry, you don't need to have the keyboard (i don't have url try google/microsoft.com search). What it does is basically remap all your creative ir remote button to keyboard key... , so next / previous button on remote can be remapped into keyboard next/previous button (the mapping is customizable). All remote key is mappable. The only complaint, is audigy function now obviously can't be accessed through the remote (such as cmss, rec). But i find it acceptable, than to find the fact the remote is useless using creative apps...

also don't forget to turn off creative remote detection (accessible from "Remote Control & OSD Settings" menu on start menu -> creative -> mediasource)

cheers.

right after i made the previous, post, i found a very useful program that is a plugin for winamp
its called RM-X
http://www.darkain.com/rmx/download.php
for those looking to control winamp with the creative remote, i think this is a good choice. it doesn't need that intellitype program
