$300 for a psu? Hmm...well it doesn't have to be literally DEAD silent. I'm thinking something about as quiet as a modern Dell. They're quiet enough for my needs.
Then just take any heavy duty 400W PSU and replace it's primary fan with a papst 8412NGL. The Papst 8412NGL has a mere 12DB of noise output, making it insigificant even compared to the baracuda IV
I built one on an asus k8v, died the next day. Will not bootup and says cpu damaged, upon checking the motherboard thread for this board, I have found this happened to a number of other people. So I got a MSI k8t Neo as others have suggested in that thread after thier asus died on them, so far so good. No problems.
Make sure u get very good ram, like the ones that can do 2-2-2-5. A64 doesnt like crappy ram, and tends to reboot spontaneously when the ram cant handle the timing.

I'm using a chaintech znf3-150 and it's great. Sound wasn't a consideration for me since as long as the noise is constant it doesn't bother me when I go to sleep. It's chipset is passively cooled but theres a heatpipe/fan on the voltage regulators. I don't know how loud the fan is though since I have 10 other fans in my computer (5 case 2 psu 1 cpu 2 video card 1 mobo).

AOpen 8K86-L mobo works well. No onboard Firewire, so I added an inexpensive PCI card. Buffalo PC3200 RAM (Samsung chips) runs fine. I've OC'd both mobo and Ram to FSB 220 without a stutter.

I donno about anyone else but I'm waiting at least a full year to buy a 64 setup...so many reasons.
-Price
-No good LL memory out there
-No ddr2 yet
-No great mobos
-no mature mobos
-No PCIexpress
-No BTX
-No All SATA system
-No software
and so on.,,,,
IMO the best bet now, if you NEED a system, is a pentium C or AthlonXp paired with rock stable chipset boards like NF2 or canterwood..But I would wait.

Agreed if your budget is tight. I however have been on A64 a couple months now and no way would I go back to sktA....NO WAY! :music: I'm running almost the identical CPU speed of 2.4ghz on my 3000+ as I did on my Barton and it's faster at everything, sometimes alot faster but never slower. If I didn't build already I'd wait for 939 to hit since it's so close now, but to say wait a year to go A64 is waaaaay too long to wait if money isn't the primary issue IMHO. Sure you can do great on a mobile barton nF2 and the real world difference isn't that noticable outside of gaming but if spending a few bills to upgrade doesn't find you eating Ramen noodles everyday I say sktA can suck it :evil:

Budget isn't that big a concern but I don't think I need an FX rig. I've already got a 2800+ NF7-S rig at 2.2GHz. Just wanted to dive into A64 really for testing purposes.
