Configuration for New PC

Hi there... I gonna be building a new PC soon... going for bang-4-buck PC... what do you think?

P4 1.6A (hopefully 2+ Ghz... if not... 1.6 Ghz is fast enough!)
MSI 645 Ultra
512 Crucial DDR
Radeon 8500
Hercules Fortissmo 2 sound card
Logitech z560 5.1
60 GB Maxtor fluid bearing 7200 RPM HD x 2 (non-raid)
DVD Drive (name brand)
LG 32x CDRW
19 Flat Trinitron Monitor (probably Compaq or Samsung)

Any changes that you guyz/galz recommend? Mostly gaming will be done on this PC. Thanx for any suggestions.

ti4200 vid card may be better. of course, you might get the 8500LE for quite a few $$$ less.

For gaming, I prefer the Nvidia cards. If you wait a couple of weeks, you can get a Geforce4 Ti4200 for under $200. It's a fast card. Check out the benchmarks on Tom's Hardware. I think it's a lot faster than the Radeon.

And until a couple of months ago, I would have told you to get an Athlon, but if I was buying now and planning on overclocking, I would probably go with a Northwood 1.6. Although my XP 1700+ does 1900+ with the stock HSF.

Looks sweet. Have fun.

I also suggest buying a GeForce 4 Ti200. I don't regret spending the extra cash on my 4400. For a DVD drive, get a Lite-On 16x. They are the fastest 16x DVD drives, and cheap too. Don't get a Compaq monitor. Get the Samsung 900NF if you are looking for an aperture grille monitor. By the way, that configuration is very similar to the one that I just put together. Check out my rigs profile and I can answer any questions about our similar parts.

I'm gonna second that....

"Bang for the buck" and "Intel" seem a little bit contradictory.

If you go AMD, you can put some of those $$ you saved into a higher quality video card.

*cough" Nvidia *cough"

Damn n00b's 😀

The Intel Pentium 4 1.6A is the BEST proc to overclock. With a decent powersupply, you can EASILY oc it to 2.2ghz no problem.

Anyways, as for the Radeon 8500, get the GeForce4.. They update their drivers more often so you aren't left out in the cold for a few days.

As for the Compaq monitor, I have had this 19" Compaq monitor for 2 years.. A great monitor, no complaints here.
