I wish to assemble a PC for myself, to be used for some graphic editing and playing games besides the usual stuff one would use computer for. If anyone can help me design a good configuration for it, please write. I wish to buy the parts on my own and get it assmbled. I am planning for a Pentium 4 system with a budget of around $1300. Kindly advise about best possible configuration keeping in mind upgradability and usage and if possible please suggest individual company name for each components like Motherboard, RAM etc. Thank you.

Why no Athlon 64? They lead the benchmarks (gaming very much so), run cooler (meaning less fan noise and less power use), and offer future with 64bit operating system/application enviroment. I can answer either way to build the best for your money just let me know.

Are you wanting to include a monitor? What size? LCD or CRT?

You want quiet computer?

What kind of games you play?

You want aluminum case/black/white etc?

Pretty open ended really because you did'nt give much information....
