Conference in Downtown CHITOWN. What do in free time?

I'll be staying at a hotel in the 800 block of N Michigan Ave while attending a conference for work from tomorrow afternoon until Saturday morning.

Any recommendations for what to do after say 6:00 PM? Places of interest? Parks? Restaurants?

Thanks for the recommendations!

(I will not have a rental car, so I will be limited by foot/taxi/metro.)

Hancock building observatory at night if clear (2 blocks north)
Water Tower place for shopping (1 block north)
River/lake cruises (8 blocks south, Michigan and the river)
Millennium park (on foot or via Bus/Subway)

Food suggestions depend entirely on cuisine and budget constraints.

Instead of the observation deck, just go to the bar/restaurant there - still a good view and you can use that cash to get a drink instead.

There's a pretty good Spanish/tapas place on Ohio, Emilios I think.

Been to the Signature lounge and the Observatory, still prefer the Obs...particularly if you are going to take pictures.

The signature lounge in the observatory is disgustingly dirty and the drinks and service are terrible.

After a long day of conferencing, I can imagine that you might enjoy a nice, relaxing bath at Steamworks on N Halsted.
