Way to go GOP. Just in case there was even a single person outside your completely batshit base who thought you might be moderating about social issues, you immediately spring to action to reassure them that's not the case. Because gay bashing is how you win the hearts and minds of American youth and reassure the libertarians and Rockefeller moderates who think the Dems are completely wrong on fiscal issues and might be open to voting for you.

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/02/...-to-ban-gay-athletes-from-playing-in-the-nfl/

Washington lobbyist Jack Burkman issued a statement saying that his firm, J M Burkman & Associates, is preparing legislation that would ban gay athletes from playing in the National Football League (NFL).

In a statement, Burkman wrote that “We are losing our decency as a nation. Imagine your son being forced to shower with a gay man. That’s a horrifying prospect for every mom in the country. What in the world has this nation come to?”

According to the statement, the idea for a Congressional ban on gay athletes in the NFL came to him after he watched coverage of Michael Sam’s decision to come out of the closet prior to the NFL draft. In recent weeks, Sam has been praised by many Democratic lawmakers, as well as First Lady Michelle Obama, who called him “an inspiration.”

A laser like focus on abortions and gays is pretty much all the GOP does... oh, and tax cuts for the rich.

Burkman in a statement said he has garnered political support for the bill, though his statement didn’t mention any specific lawmakers who are behind it.

That's because there aren't any...

Color me shocked, a lobbying firm trying to drum up publicity so they can fleece new clients.

I don't get it, OP. Are you that surprised by this story? It's the history of the GOP to oppose gay rights....

\but hey, both parties are bad, so vote GOP...

maybe not even republican lawmakers are willing to shame themselves by supporting such a heat seeking target issue

Right, it's just a stunt to get media attention.

It has no real support and will go nowhere.

In fact, it will hurt his lobbying business.

So football players aren't gay? Who knew? This was largely my experience growing up in HS, anyhow. But they were all obsessively closeted about it. They would date the cheerleaders who often didn't put out, then go get drunk and party and have sex with their buds. Of course, the black football players might be a little different in that respect, so I can't vouch for them in HS. And the black cheerleaders probably all put out for them, so there's that to consider, too.

And the morally self righteous fundie, bigoted, hypocrites in the GOP needs to stay the hell out of my bedroom and who I sleep with, thank you very damn much. I am not a reprehensible means to get you fundie votes, you hateful, vicious, blood sucking GOP vampires.

I'm sure mothers all over the US are unable to sleep at night with this thought haunting them...

While I am have no doubts that this is the GOP position this is pretty much a non-story imo. It is a GOP lobbyist firm not some high profile politician or even someone like O'Reilly or Limbaugh.

The thread title is bullshit. The man is a lobbyist. I guess the inference is that lobbyists only work with the GOP? The GOP is mentioned only in the title of the article linked. 404 GOP not found.

You want to be angry, direct it towards Jack Burkman.

Threads like these show just how incapable of thought the people of our nation have become. I am often amazed how articles I read at the linked site below are so topical to what is being discussed here. "Four legs good, two legs bad."

Students Sign Petition To Have Gun Owners Executed In Concentration Camps

Media analyst Mark Dice has once again documented how many young Americans are completely disconnected from reality, capturing California college students signing a fake petition to imprison all legal gun owners in concentration camps and even to have them executed.

there must be some. Enough to encourage the GOP to pander to christian nutjobs.

Republicans dont give a shit about morals or family values. They just discovered an easy to tap voting base, unfortunately it has some weird ideas and doesnt listen to reason.

If the Republicans stopped bending over for them then the hardcore conservative christian voters would have to go with their own party or start strong arming a current 3rd party.
They may be saddened to realize they dont have nearly as many people on their side as they believed.

Holy shit, we could actually have a government not influenced by religion for maybe 6 whole months!!

This sounds like something a Big Government would get involved in.

Tsk, tsk.

Yes, both parties do use lobbying firms. But it is hard to imagine any current Dem legislator who would align themselves with the idiotic legislation proposed by Mr. Burkman. GOP, not so much.

Rather than creating hypothetical scenarios for polls, which themselves have loaded questions, "media analyst" Dice should concentrate on educating people on how to think; something the nation could definitely use.
