I just renewed my CC licensee with the state of Utah. Took 10 minutes and $15.75 for the next 5 years. I Love the R (red) states!

Problem is I live in NM. We use to have reciprocity with UT, but my D (blue) state realized that they were missing out on all that money, so they revoked reciprocity with Utah.
NM requires that I take the CC class and re-qualify every 2 years, which costs me money to hire an instructor. This is BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell, how do you know them now? Recently, with a permit in SC, I can carry on me or anywhere in my vehicle that I want. Went to NC last month, from the gun thread:

Called 2 counties...the sheriff's approve the permits in NC...and got the same answer. If I'm valid, then I can act like a NC resident with a permit...in the console. Tried to wade through the NCDOJ site without much success.

Unlocked console or under seat is verboten. A locked console or dash is fine with permit.

Can't lock either in the truck.

None of the states that border my state even allow for carry. Well, they are "may issue" which essentially means, nope you ain't getting one.

I accidentally went to RI once with my .380 on me. That was a nerve racking few hours.

You can call the local law enforcement, but they might not give a straight answer. Remember they often have a different interpretation of the law than judges and lawyers.

Gun magazines used to have lists for such things.

We'd never be able to agree. Gun-hating states and gun-loving states cant come to a common ground.

As pointless as it would seem, it'd be nice if they started with a minimum gun law for CC. That way you could use that as a fallback law for CC in your personal vehicle and whether or not you take it out of the vehicle is up to you. That would tell traveling folk what they can do, at the least.....and those willing to research state laws can choose to carry outside their vehicle if it doesn't violate anything.

The only violence that goes on out there are the hate groups that got ousted from the bigger cities in California, Colorado, and Texas that converged in AZ, NM, UT, and NV....and those aren't even that bad because it's a dry hate.

California would want intensive background checks and 100 hours of training and DNA samples and a thousand dollar donation to street gang watch programs.


Texas would want you to carry around a Pocket Constitution.

I don't think the law should require a minimum of what you need to do to get a CC. I think the law should require a minimum of what someone who has a CC is allowed to do. Like transport in a car for example.


It's kinda like drivers licenses. The tests are different in each state as is the duration, cost, etc. But they are respected in each state.

When I got it, my state had reciprocity with Utah. The reason I got a UT CC lic. was because UT had reciprocity with more states then NM.
I also have a NM CC.

As far as websites, there are two I know of that stay pretty up-to-date on carry laws and reciprocity: NRA-ILA and handgunlaws.us.

AL granted reciprocity to PA this year, so I could carry while visiting my brother. Kinda weird how it doesn't work in reverse, though. They really should get a federal CC law on the books and Feinstein out of office, not necessarily in that order. Carry across state lines is one of the worst legal minefields in the country.

I did look at the 2nd site last month. The question I had was that I can't lock the glove box but I have a CCW, is it OK in the glove box? The 2 counties I called said I was fine but a poster here said no and that's what I went with.

I have a lock box in my car. No sense in leaving a 500 dollar valuable unprotected when a good safe is only about 50 bucks. And its nice for other things too.
