I was wondering - is concealed storage a bad idea? I'd think that heating/air circulation could be a problem. Tons of desks seem to have this feature.

for a hot overclocked processor, yeah, it could make it overheat. For a typical, well-ventilated computer, it probably won't matter too much... Just make it run a few degrees hotter.

If a PC didn't need air circulation, would it have intake/exhaust fans? Would the enclosure be vented in any way at all?

no, not /thread
do you honestly think "Concealed CPU Storage" means "air tight"... no it doesn't
All it means is a door on the front. I'm sure its wide open in the back. Air can still get in the front and certainly escape from the back. Needless to say, as SWScorch said, I wouldn't put some Quad-Core OC'ed to 35432Ghz CPU in there, but a stock Dell etc would be perfectly fine.

My desk is exactly like that (door in front, open in back) and I have had no problems running a moderate O/C. But, I do have good airflow through my case, and I'll crack the door 1/2" when gaming.

I was thinking of taking a hole saw and drilling a line of holes on the door near the bottom and screening them off to allow a bit better airflow while still looking low key.

It's a bad idea. I bought an expensive desk with a CPU cubby - none of my cases even come close to fitting in there and it's air-flow restrictive. The only case that might fit in there is SFF or one of those skinny Dell cases. This is on a very high end desk too.
