What happened to Max Weinberg? I noticed that he wasn't there when Conan introduced the band, "Jimmy Lavino and the Basic Cable Band".

From max's wiki page:
"In September 2010, it was announced Weinberg would not be part of the show, now named Conan; Jimmy Vivino took over leadership of that band, with Wormworth replacing Weinberg full time on drums. The split was stated as being mutual, with O'Brien saying, "Max has been a huge part of my life for the past 17 years and he is an incredible band leader and musician," and Weinberg thanking his band and saying, "17 years — a lifetime on TV ... my association with Conan, his staff, and crew has been a deeply rewarding experience for me."Weinberg subsequently acknowledged that "We both wanted to go in different directions," but both looked forward to Weinberg occasionally stopping by to sit in on the new show. Weinberg said his health was better than ever but that the "life-changing experience emotionally and spiritually" of the surgery, a desire to remain in New Jersey with his family, and an interest in exploring new musical directions had all played a role in his departure from O'Brien."

Finally saw the first episode last night. It was ok nothing special. If you like Conan then it's more for you, if you don't there's nothing different. Also I didn't care for the guests he had. I figured he'd have more well known guests for his first show but obviously not. No need for me to watch it again.

They need to get the message, ala SNL, that something MAY be funny in small doses, but just loses it when it is on too long.

Or in the case of the late shows, too long and too often.

The Daliy Show and Colbert Report have hit the spot because they are on and off in 30 minutes (each). They do not have to interview 1 exciting and two boring guests (and have the same, Monologue-Intro-Sketch-Guest-Animal Segment-Band-Guest-Band routine over and over again).

Give the late shows 45 minutes, start them at 11 and maybe you will see more interest.

I agree. I really enjoy the opening monologue and then the individual jokes that Conan makes. I don't enjoy the interviews or the musical guests.
