Conan and Letterman were both in a place where they could be themselves and not pander to a particular audience. But now Conan is supposed to captivate two audiences...the one he's bringing over from his original show, and Leno's previous audience. And that's not going to happen - atleast not quick enough imo before Nbc has to make a change. Nbc had two loyal audiences, now they have one, and that's not going to cut it (unless they come up with another late night hit to absorb the audience that doesn't care for Conan)
As for Schaffer and "cornerstone", please explain (or link?) for my edification. I know he's talented and respected but not much else about him.
Agreed, Conan has far too much expected of him.
