Hey everyone,

I didn't see news of this prototype being shared here but I stumbled across it over at tftcentral. They provided a link to a Youtube video (German - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6AUn5hHg-A ) where someone from Asus shows off the monitor, albeit briefly.

I don't know about you, but I find this quite impressive. tftcentral updated their article by linking the release of this monitor with the AU Optronics announcement (http://www.auo.com/?sn=107&lang=en-US&c=10&n=1894) that it is an AHVA (IPS type) panel, so I am not sure how this would fare against IPS monitors.

Wanted to share this with you. The original article at tftcentral is here: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/35.htm#asus_prototype

I'm not sure how long it takes prototypes like these to hit the market, but the build I frequently refer to on these forums will be done this year, and I'll be delaying a monitor upgrade until something stellar (like this monitor, or the Dell OLED, etc.) is released.

This is it. Needs size variety, Freesync/G-sync might throw a curve ball down the road but in theory get one of these and you are set for the next 5 years, it will take at least 3 for GPU power to get most out of it anyway, 4K/144fps is a tall order.

Agreed. Needs 32-40" screen options and Freesync/G-Sync.

I'm good with 4k at 27" but I know that this is more personal preference + eyesight etc + distance from the monitor. I've used a 27" 1440p monitor since 2010 and bumping that up to 4k would be great for me.

On the hardware - yeah, to benefit from this or OLED monitors with high refresh rates the graphics card investment will be a tall order but that has been the case to push high framerates for a while.

What I'm looking for now is manufacturers to take the plunge and start releasing DP 1.3 monitors where we can start enjoying the new possibilities.

It can be a bit frustrating that they make so many little (under 30") better performance monitors but not a lot of big screens.

I've been thinking my next upgrade would be 31.5-inch (that's 32 advertised) 4K at least 100Hz. Glad to see 144Hz. But I agree we need bigger than 27-inch options. My version of VR right now is 90 degree FOV and sitting pretty close to my 27-inch 1440p. 31.5 and even more PPI would be quite the upgrade.
