Computers in college dorms?

Will I be able to fit a 19inch monitor and a full tower computer in a standard dorm at a college such as UCLA or will I have to downgrade? Thanks

eh.. the monitor might not fight on certain desks... i had to modify mine at school to get my 19" to fit... and my monitor has short tubes

I had to turn my monitor almost sideways to fit it onto my desk at VT, but it worked out fine. As for a full tower, it should definitely fit. Just stick it on the floor next to your desk. No worries.

<< yes, the dorm rooms ARE big enough to fit a full tower case. >>

lol.... i was thinking the same thing.. im sure you can get em in your room just fine... finding a convenient place to put em and use em from could be a different story though....

Would a KDS 19inch Visual Sensation fit in one of the UCLA dorms or would I have to downgrade or maybe get an LCD monitor? Thanks

The real question is "Do you want to lug a full tower to school and back?"

OSU dorms suck for computer junkies, the desks have no holes so you can't put the box under the desk (newer dorms are l33t but I had a bad one)

solution? get a laptop 😀

Bleh to your solution. I have a 17 inch and a mid tower. Upgrading in 1-2 weeks to a 19inch and a full tower. I ALSO have a laptop. 🙂 The best of both worlds.

my friend is considering getting a 21" monitor for his dorm room next year. He would use it as his TV i imagine though.

the monitor will fit but you lose your entire desk for it. though the full tower WILL fit, youll want to keep it at home and get a mid tower like an enlight in the meantime. trust me, the lugging around does suck. had to do it for 2 years, till i got my own place. although, im still using the enlights. i just cant justify the space nor extra cost for a full tower anymore. :disgust:

I agree w/ what people have been saying. Full tower cases are fine, just put it on the floor next to your desk. Big monitors are tricky, esp. if you want your keyboard right in front of it. I had to remove a built-in bookshelf from my desk and my monitor is only 17". It's doable but you'd be better off w/ a nice LCD, besides they look cooler 😉

A full tower won't be able to fit in a dorm room...dorms are too small...heh j/k. It'll fit fine, dorm rooms aren't always as small as you think.

at UCLA the desk usually come with a bookshelf thing.. so you might have to remove that and place it on the floor or something.. but the desk do extend... not sure if you would have the room if you are living in a triple though...

Yup. I'm at UCLA with a KDS 19" right now. It fits, along with my printer, speakers, books, trash, soda cans, CD-Rs, keyboard and mouse, more trash, etc.

well i know from first hand experience that you can have a 21 inch monitor in the high rise dorms (rieber, sproul, hedrick) which are the smallest. i moved into the suites where the desks are smaller but luckily i changed monitors since last year. here's a picture of my setups in UCLA.

hope this helps

No problem with the full tower case. However, when I took my 19inch Hitachi monitor to school, I had to take the sliding base off to make it fit on the desk.
Good luck!

i got a 19in on a desk here at cramped ucla dorm.
if i had a choice, i'd get LCD or lappy
edit:
and i am using the same monitor you wanna fit
how ironic

i met a guy across the hall once when he was moving in to his 5x12 foot single. He brought a 36" gateway destination TV/monitor! :Q
