Anyone have one? i was thinking about getting a Zoompc and a external 80gb hdd and throwing a touch screen lcd in my dash.

Has anyone attempted such a feat?

Yeah thats what i thought.

I'm thinking about taking the plunge... anyone have any touch screen lcd suggestions? and should i use linux?

an ACTUAL computer, or a navi? people who know what they're doing have done it. if you have to ask then i'm pretty sure you don't know much about how to fabricate/weld/know what to connect everything to/spend money for the project 😉.

I read a news article about 8 years ago about people who surf the net with lappys while driving. And people wonder why there are so many accidents due to driver distraction...😉

you don't need to do all that stuff, just get a psu that can run off the dc power in from the car and get a good garage to put the stuff in for you, its not that hard at all, my friend has one in his souped-up acura rsx

i don't plan to integrate it into my dash.

its gonna be a bit rough but i want something that can play movies and mp3's plus maybe some gps navigation.

If i do i'm gonna get my friend who hooks up car stereos for a living to help me with this. I was thinking about spending upwards of 500 bucks sans the gps if its too much.

Well I think the website up there has a touchscreen that can mount on top off the dash, its 300 i think + the power supply is pretty expensive too, I think this may cost around 700-800, with the work done to install. Maybe cheaper since your friend is doing it.

Hmmm how does the gps nav work? would there be some sort of monthly cost for it? if i buy a the zoompc i can just by a hdd with that since it already comes with a psu.
