Computers approaching 1Hp

Hey all

With the standardization of high power PSU's...400W, then 500W, now I believe Alienware offers a 600 or 680 watt PSU...how soon will it be before computers are pushing 1 Horsepower (746watts)?

My Dell is rated at 345 watts peak...thats 0.46HP

My 5.1 with the sub is 720 watts at full power...almost there

In short, 1 HP is alot of juice.

After that, when do you think we'll see the first kilowatt comps? I put my money on within 3 years.

I'm sure servers or blade arrays pull multiple kilowatts, but I'm talking a single PSU, desktop home PC (albiet with a geek's flair)

Yeah no kidding...water cooling will be the standard 😛

Air Cooling > Water Cooling

Ummm.... WHAT?!

anyways, computer parts submerged in mineral oil will be the new wave of geekiness.

Or diamond processor cores that don't need heatsinks.

actually companies are beginning to realize that it isn't all about clock speed and they are trying to focus more on power consumption. I don't think they will come out with 10Ghz unless they find a more efficient way to pack those transistors.

they should just get it over with and start implanting computers into our brains... got all the juice it needs right there.
