Can someone give me a quick explanation?

I plugged everything in right. power on the powersupply, push the power button on the computer, nothing works.

I rechecked the connector to the motherboard & the switch connector and they're both on tight.

I even tried it with a different powersupply but still doesn't power on.

Does this mean that my motherboard is bad? I bought it refurbished from newegg, should i return it?

err...even if the memory is bad, shouldn't the powersupply at least run on its own? my case is that i couldn't even get the powersupply fan to spin :(

1. Is the power supply plugged into the outlet?
2. If there is a switch on the back of the power supply, is it on?
3. Is the power switch lead from the case connected to the motherboard...properly?

when i put together my first computer a while ago, one of the jumpers on the motherboard was set incorrectly which didn't allow my motherboard to even boot up. maybe that's the problem.

as i recall, the "bios reset jumper" was set to reset, which didn't allow my comp to even boot up. You might want to look at the manual and check that all the jumpers on the mobo are set correctly. Since it is a refurbished board, it is prob possible that someone messed with the jumper settings.

this is my first prime suspect.

if you didn't touch the bios jumper... the factory setting is at clear.
you need to change that.

read your mobo manual.
the bios jumper is usually next to battery.

if that's all good...
check your powersupply.

unplug your powersupply from the mobo.
get a paperclip... straighten it out... make it into a "V" shape.
stick one end into the green wire from the powersupply... and
stick the other end of the paperclip into any black wire.

turn the powersupply on... and see if the fan is running.
it should be running.
if not... then it's your powersupply.

if that's good...
plug the powersupply back in the mobo.
and check your agp card.
(video card)

in order for your computer to boot...
you need these things.

cpu well seated in the mobo
memory well seated in the mobo
agp card well seated in the mobo
working powersupply connected to the mobo.
mobo well set (no jumper issues)

i'd check 'em in the reverse order.

if all those things are well... then you should at least see post

I've been away from computers for quite a while, but shouldn't the PS fan at least run?

nope... say your video card in apg port isn't seated all the way in... everything else can be perfect... but your computer won't boot up... your powersupply won't budge.

Make sure the power supply switch is turned on (if it has one)

If you are running a P4 board, try a different memory slot, sometimes if memory is in the wrong slot it won't boot.

Try disconnecting the power supply cable from the mainboard and reconnecting.

Did you plug the power cord in?

If all those fail, then you probably have one dead board.

Did you even read the replies, because I really think that he checked this stuff a LONG time ago.

Anyways, also just for spite, does your motherboard have an LED that tells when power is being fed to it? because mine comes on even when nothing else is on the board, as long as the power connector is hooked to the board and the switch on the PSU is on.... but of course, the system wont boot without that stuff.

Just to reiterate as well, the switch connector from the case.... you keep saying "yes its connected tight" or "yeah its connected to the mobo"... but have you tried flipping it around? Sometimes that makes a difference...I know Ive had a system not boot before because of that, thought I dont understand it at all (Because doesnt it just close the circuit?)... but I would give it a try....

One more question. Is your CPU fan plugged into the correct socket. One of the systems I worked on wouldn't even post if the CPU fan was not plugged into the right socket. Check the manual on this. One time the manual even had a typo, and it said something like "plug A" when it should have been "plug B".

like people have said, check you fan, it might need to be plugged in to "CPUFAN1"

Also, this is a VERY REmote idea, but have you checked the actual SWITCH....sometimes the wires have a habit of being moved because they aren't secured

good luck
