computer won't turn on

hi guys. I have a i7-920(or 940 i forget) system with ocz 6gb (forgot the speed) along with sapphire radeon 4890 HD. My PSU is silver lake 700w and my MB is gigabyte something. I built this computer with the list that was on one of the anandtech articles on a mid-performance desktop couple years back.

Last night I was using the computer just fine and when I went to sleep I turned it off. This morning when I woke up, computer just won't turn on. I took off the plug and reconnect with no luck. I switched the wall plug (plug into other wall outlets) with no luck. Lastly I switched off my room's fuse and turn them on. Stillllll no luck. ALL the appliances on that wall outlet has power except for my pc.

What can I do now?

The answer begs the question - change out the PSU.
However, check the case wiring to the MB.
There's an outside chance that it could be the case's MC switch, so when your checking the inside MB wiring, (carefully) by-pass the MC switch and see what happens. Good luck.

I have no idea how to do any stuff with the MB wiring for the MC switch or anything like that. However I was planning on going to microcenter near me. Should I still buy a 700w or fewer watts is fine. any suggestions?

700w is fine.But just like C1 told you.Microcenter should make the test to make sure it is the psu or the MC switch

I took it in and they said they charge like 50 bux to test it. I just bought a new one and plug it in. It's the Thermaltake TX2 or something. I plugged everything in and into the wall outlet. Interestingly, there is still no power, but when I press the power switch, my fan moved a tiny bit and stopped. I unplugged it from the wall and replug it and same thing happened. This is something that didn't happen with old PSU. Since there is a reaction when I press the power switch, meaning the wiring is still functional and PSU is brand new so that has to work as well. Could it be that my motherboard is fried?

I noticed that there is a 8pin connector on the MB and my old PSU has a dedicated one just for that, but this thermaltake PSU doesn't have one. It has 4+2, the big MB one, and a 4+4. I unplug the dedicated one from old PSU onto the new thermaltake PSU. Is what I did wrong?

also, in addition to the fan moving a little, I noticed there is a green LED light that blinked once while the fan moved. My motherboard is gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R

put the two four together, the pins fit in it. And about you're old dedicated one, never mind that you just said it, it's old. Basicly take everything that's brand new and never mind the old stuff. So verdict, 4+4 = 8 put them together.and always make sure to turn off psu and wait about 30 sec before unpluging wires.

Most 8-pin boards will work with both 8-pin and 4-pin power, as the connectors are cross-compatible. are u sure everything is in properly

I didn't try it at first because the shape is different for one of the 4pins. 1st 4 pin has the same exact shape and the MB, but the 2nd 4pin is all the weird shape (not the square). I thought the design was to be idiotproof so I didn't try. I just did and it works! Thanks!

On an unrelated note. After I plug everything back in I open firefox and I couldn't goto any sites. All I got was a warning that the sites I try to goto are untrusted. Gmail, facebook, and other common stuff. What could be the problem?

Glad you did find it.and for your other problem. what antivirus do you have. is it up to date.is it set to high for protection
