Hey guys n gals, got a small problem with my homebuilt PC that just started.
It won't start.

It has power, with the pws connected I get a light on the mobo, and a couple external drives have lights. But, when I hit the power switch, the fans / lights spin for a split second then nothing. The only way it will start is if I disconnect the 12v cable from the pws, however I don't get a bios screen or anything. Not that I would want to have it w/o the 12v as I know it needs to be connected.

Here is what I've done, hopefully someone can point out a step I've missed before I just go out and buy a new mobo:

- Pulled out all hardware, disconnected everything from the mobo, and put it all back together.
- Pulled out cards and sticks of ram one at a time, until all I had connected was 1 stick of ram.
- Cleared CMOS (my mobo doesn't have a jumper, I took the battery out for 10 min)

The only things I haven't done is try a different pws, which I doubt is the problem since it has power (maybe insufficient power?), or tried a different chip / mobo.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte 8IK1100.

Any ideas?

I had a similar problem with an Asus (P4PE) board a few years ago. Sometimes it would start, most of the time it would spin up and go dead. I fixed my problem by re-seating and applying some thermal paste to my CPU cooler, no problems after that.

Motherboard appears to be dead, as I tried a different power supply and different chip, same issue.
Got one on order, should arrive in the next couple days.
