Computer won't start

I'm putting together a new computer for a friend. This is an Intel P4 system. He wanted a cheap computer so I found him a bundle deal on this forum. It came with a case and a QDI Superb 4x motherboard. I had everything hooked up and turned the computer on. The fan in the Power supply & the CPU fan came on for about 2 seconds and went off. I have unplugged everything and I get the same results.

The Power supply has the ATX & 12V lines connected. I have tried a different power supply and faceplate from another case and still it does the same thing. Seems to me like this must be a MB problem but maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Any suggestions?

It is similar to a problem I had with one of my first builds. My case came with a standoff in the wrong location and was causing a short between the motherboard and the case. To ensure that this is not the cause, you can remove the motherboard and place it on a non-conductive surface such as a piece of cardboard and attach it to the power supply outside of the case to see if it will power up.

Try one other -
clear CMOS by using the jumper, take out battery and unplug from the mains - for at least 20 minutes, then reverse procedure

Have you hooked front panel usb? Getting the wireing wrong can cause this.

Thanks for the help. I tried pulling the MB out and putting it back in. It is working now so there must have been a short. I was going to try the CMOS reset but the first suggestion fixed the problem.
