Yeah...It's weird. The computer acts like its shutting down but gets stuck at the "shutting down" screen. Then I have to hold down the power button for like 15 secs and it goes off.

Everything seems to be running fine anyways.

Does anyone know anything about this?

That suggests there is some piece of housekeeping it can't resolve. Do a registry scrub run an anti-spyware scan, and optimize the drive.

I know, happens to me too, I just repaired Windows. Got sick of old trash, then restored it. Don't install things you don't need.

Right, I do that quite often. Perhaps there is another program I should be using?

Disabled everything in MSCONFIG reboot and kill all excess processes. Then shutdown the machine and see if it still hangs... If it does? Well, then your S.O.L... If it shuts down, then you know a certain process was stopping it. Add one back in one at a time until you find it :D Tedius, I know... Personally, I would be too lazy and just hit the power button. But then again, I do not ever shut off my computer. With the stability of WindowsXP now, you can litterally leave it running 3-6 months without noticing any degridation in performance. Some could problably run it longer...

Yeah... I I have had my computer running for months at a time without even a reset. Seems like the only reason I have to do any resetting now is from iTunes--it doesn't like ripping a lot of music...
Tas.

If you have cleared ALL items in MSCONFIG's Startup tab and the problem persists, then you should try the latest AMD CPU drivers (for AMD PCs).

Is this the Sony VAIO computer in your sig? How new are we talking? It could just be that time to reinstall windows or redo up the registry.

MSI Bios!!!!!!!

Sorry, but recent bios upgrades have this problems on the Nforce 4 SLI board for example.

Ask any old timer (over three years!) about poorly written bios. Even the best like Asus and MSI have had problems.

Sometimes its not the OS, but I always blame Microsoft.
