Ive got two computers running, my main desktop and a server in the basement. The Main desktop is running Vista Ultimate and can connect to the 360 with no problems. I can share my media through WMP 11 just fine and I can share it through WMC, but WMC sucks balls.

The server in the basement is a different story. I can share media from the server to the desktop, but not to the 360. The 360 will not directly connect to the server, so I tried to share the server files through my desktop. I added the files form the server to media center and that works, but I dont want to use media center. So I tried to share the files through WMP 11 on my desktop and, all though the 360 will connect to the dekstop, it does not see the media files form the server.

The proper ports are forwarded and everything is setup just the way my desktop is but it just doesnt work. Any ideas?

To set up Windows Media Player 11 on a PC running Windows XP

1. Connect your console to your PC as described above or using one of the connection types described in Connect to Xbox LIVE.
2. Go to the Windows Media Player 11 download page at www.microsoft.com to download the software.

Depending on your region, Windows Media Player 11 may also be available at www.xbox.com/pcsetup.
3. Click Windows Media Player Software (or, if you followed the link for a manual download, choose your operating system and follow the instructions).
4. Run the software setup on your PC and follow the prompts.
5. When setup is complete, Windows Media Player should automatically start. If not, open it.
6. In Windows Media Player, click Library, Media Sharing.
7. Select Share my media, OK. Windows Media Player will search for devices on your network.
8. Click your console, then click Allow. If you want to apply more options, click Settings. When done, click OK.
9. On your Xbox 360 console, in the Media area of the Xbox Dashboard, select Music, Pictures, or Video.
10. If your PC's content is not displayed, press X and select your PC.

I remember reading a while back, that you can only connect to one computer at a time -- maybe try disconnecting from the Vista box first.
Also, my sharing between 360 and Vista stopped working one day randomly -- a reboot fixed it. I'm sure you already tried rebooting the server though.

Works fine to my PS3 from WM11.

<tip>: When you do a search (this is from a PS3, so do whatever you do on the RRoD60), go to your PC and allow the device with the dialogue that pops up.

Another vote for Tversity. I tried to get my media to stream through Vista Ultimate's MC but it never worked. Tversity with it's codec pack will stream anything I throw at it.

Definitely try what GregGreen said about connected only one PC at a time. That might solve your problem.

Have you already assigned and opened up a port on your router for Tversity? Another thing to check is your firewall settings. Be sure to add Tversity and mediaserver.exe to your exception rules.

I got the 360 to recognize my tversity server. I think I left out a port in the firewall.
