1. Go here and try this I have had a lot of success with cd problems and this fixing it: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060
2. Reconnect cables, and make sure jumpers are correct.

everything used to work fine, just in the past couple weeks it stoped without me touching anything inside the computer, the 1 drive i just plugged in last nite its an external burner which is having the same problems, so its not a wiring issue.

just try it. It wont hurt. No one else is helping you, so I would try it. Do you have any exclimations or question marks in device manager.

everythin in device manager appears to be fine, and all 3 drives appear in "my computer" so it dosent look like its a driver issue :\

Probably added an update or software that conflicts with the drive. Remove all items from MSCONFIG's startup tab and retest. The odds of all drives going south is very slim.

Format the HDD and reload windows.

You could also remove ALL burn applications and retest with a clean install of Nero.

i removed nero and still the same problem, still doing the same thing. I have a CD in each drive, when i open the DVD drive it opens just fine but appears empty, the other 2 burners just say "insert disc into drive x"

Probably had a registry issue when you've added multiple burn applications. Format the HDD and reload windows.

the only thing i ever used was nero........ I really do not want to have to format since my computer is running perfectly fine besides the CD issue.

Then use WXP's restore feature and go back as far as possible. I doubt that you will resolve the problem without format/reload of data. Next time, get a drive imaging tool to backup your OS to avoid these issues.

SecuROM or SafeDisc issue perhaps?
Did you remember installing a game before?

Weird, definitely sounds like a software thing, probably one of those nasty packages that mucks with your drivers in the name of security. I think a Windows reinstall may be the only thing that can save you, if you don't have a restore point that'll take you back to before the problem struck.
