Computer won't power up at all, not even a peep!

Hi, I hope someone can help me. Here's my situation, I got a Dell GX110 for free and it worked fine. My biggest issue with it was that it only had 128MB of ram, and wouldn't accept my 256MB SDRAM, I believe it's due to the fact that the Intel 810E chipset doesn't recognize 256Mb memory modules.

By chance I've stumbled upon a gutted (nothing but case and Mobo) Dell GX150 (OK this is stuff their throwing out at work). I looked over it's spec and it has the Intel 815E chipset which accepts 256Mb memory modules, so I was hoping to have the 128MB and 256MB memory in this new machine and have a "decent" backup computer.

So I've swamped everything into the GX150 and go to start it. I get nothing when I press the power button, just a little noise when I plug the power plug into the psu. Does anyone have any ideas? I will mention that the GX110 mobo had a 2x10 power connector and a 1x6 power connector while the GX150 only has the 2x10 power connector. Can this be the source of my problems? I've looked over the mobo and everything looks good, but it is possible it's a bad board. I assumed it was good as the case had a sticker on it which said blown HD (which wasn't their anyways).

Thanks in advance for any help and sorry for the long read.

Check the pinouts of the 2x10 power connectors. I think you'll find that they are different. You'll need to use the matching PSU. Dell is often proprietary like that...

I just found out that the psu isn't the right one for that board. Hopefully I haven't done any damage... I'll try to find the correct one and see if it works.

im sure you didnt do any damage. You usually smell burning electronics and your plug turns brown when that happens
