I turn the power on and the cpu and power supply fan spin up and I can hear the HDD spin as well. But that's all it does. Nothing shows on the monitor and it doesn't beep.

I tried unpluging everything but the HDD and the video card but get the same result.
Also, in order to turn it back off, I have to hold the power button in for several seconds.

It's possible that the cpu overheated. There was a lot of dust caked around the HSF. Is there anyway to test this? I don't have another motherboard I can test it in.

The motherboard is a K7T VER:1

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Is this a newly built machine or have been working? If it have been working, when is the last time it booted up? Installed any new hardware recently?

:) I had the same problem with my K7T266 Pro2. I used a spray can of Endust (compressed air) to blow off the motherboard thoroughly and it solved my problem. I think it may have been some dust short circuting the board, but I can't imagine dust being very conductive. Worth a try. Good luck.

The computer belongs to a friend of my dad. I'm trying to get some more detailed info, but this is what I know so far.
The machine has been up and running for a year and a half. The computer was on when their dog got behind it or something, then it shut off, never to come on again.

I'm thinking of putting the cpu in my motherboard if it will fit (abit kt7a-raid). Could the cpu damage my board if it's bad?

thanks
