Computer won't POST

Hey guys I need some help here. I just got a computer at a work auction for $2. Its a 200 Mhz K-6, with a ASUS TX-97 XE motherboard, a 3 gig harddrive, and a Diamond video card. I threw some memory in that I know works and booted it up. No post and no video. It will count the memory and then the harddrive starts a methodical ticking. So I removed the video and reinstalled it. No change. I put in a different video card (one that I know works) and no change. Checked all the jumpers and they are all correct. Need help guys

If there's no video, how do you know its counting the memory? If you can see it count the memory, can you get into the BIOS? Maybe if you put in the system defaults, that would help. Or if the mobo has a clear CMOS jumper you can use.

I can tell its counting memory by the noise it is making

ok maybe the pci slots are dead,did you try an old ISA video card ?

Well, you've done pretty much what I would have done. The only other thing I would try was to make sure the monitor cable is connected (I had a system that wouldn't show video unless I was physically pushing in the plug into the video card). If the jumpers are correct, and you know the video and RAM are working, that only leaves the mobo or CPU as the problem. I think if the CPU was bad, it would never get to the memory check. If they have more of these auctions, maybe you could get a couple more system for a few bucks and combine the best parts to make one full system. Sorry I couldn't have been more help.

Try all the slots, try different video cards, make sure the monitor is good, and also make sure the HD is good if it doesn't go past the memory counting.
