Computer won't post when printer is plugged in

I have a Canon i470D printer. If it's plugged into a USB port (doesn't matter which one) when I turn the computer on, it will show the intital display and then just sit there. If I pull the cable out, it will then suddenly detect all the IDE drives and go through the normal boot process.

I can plug the printer back in once Windows loads and it works fine, but I'd obviously like to be able to leave it plugged in.

Anyone know what might be wrong?

I had the same thing happen on an external USB HDD. I am sorry I have no answer.

Have you tried to plug it in on another PC??? In my case the HDD was going south.

I would uninstall printer drivers/software then reinstall following all instructions carefully. With most modern printers you must install software/drivers before connecting usb cable. 😉

i agree this would probably work best and try updating any drivers for the printer
 
In the bios of the computer does it have the option to boot from USB and is that option turned on? If it is enabled, disable it and see what happens. Is the usb legacy keyboard support option on? If you have a bios with lots o' USB features, turn them all off and then turn them back on one at a time to see if you can pinpoint a particular one as a problem.

I can't imagine it's a driver issue as it's doing this long before Windows loads up. Kind of has to be hardware related.

In fact, if you plug in the keyboard while in the bios menu, it will freeze (keyboard doesn't do anything) until you unplug the printer.

I don't believe this is an issue even if the drivers are screwed......the bios doesn't need drivers......The drivers are only initialised deep into the boot up phase not at the start with the bios!!! In windows it would be an issue...but not here!! Also he said

so obviously the drivers are fine!!

Are there any overclocks in your rig.....??
 
I'm not sure why some of you guys are telling him to install drivers or doing windows update. POST is what happens when you first start your comptuer, before it even reaches Windows. If the bios looks right, try resetting it... and if that still doesn't fix it, then see if there's an updated bios you could flash.
 
i had that EXACT same problem with that printer and a shi**y Asus A7N8X-E Delux(it was an all around POS). there was no remedy for it that i could find.

Well that's not encouraging.

The weird thing is that I haven't changed anything in my setup, and it just started doing this recently (it would occasionally do it before, but I didn't realize why until it started doing it all of time lately, and I found it was the printer by yanking cables out until my computer finally booted up)

I'm using an Epox 8RDA+ board by the way. nForce 2 related perhaps?

I do have the CPU overclocked (2500+ running at 2800+)

I'll try flashing an updated bios when I get home tonight. Maybe there is something goofy with the revision I'm using right now.

Whenever i start my computer up with my IPOD hooked up to the computer it comes up and tells me that the boot sequence has been changed. Just go in and disable the USB boot and should work.
 
well i returned the Asus and used two different DFI Nforce motherboards afterward, none of which had this USB problem. Try different ports.
 
I updated the BIOS, still no go.

All USB boot options are turned off. I've tried different USB ports, no go either.

Any more ideas?
