computer won't post anymore

A few months back I had to move so I unplugged my power cable from the psu. When I plugged the power cable back in, turned on the psu, and tried turning on the pc, nothing happened. I used the jumper for resetting the bios, and afterwards the pc would starting booting again. I've unplugged the power a few times since then, and I've always had to do the same thing w/ the jumper to turn my pc on. My roommate unplugged my power surge a couple days ago, so I tried the same thing, but now my pc won't post or anything. i'm sure what i've said probably isn't enough detail, but anyone have any idea wat could be wrong?

I'm gonna try using my backup psu later this week, its not here w/ me. I have a msi k8n neo2 mobo and an ocz powerstream 520W psu. also i read somewhere I could test the psu by connecting a load, like a dvd-rom drive, and short the green and a black wire on the atx cable, and the psu should turn on. is that correct? any help appreciated

I'm not sure about the shorting out part but you can try removing all the PCI cards and drives that you don't need. If your computer boots with the bare bones, then it is probably a PSU issue. If your backup PSU doesn't work, try reseating your CPU and memory. Hope this helps.

yea i've tried booting w/ the bare bones, but no luck. i inspected my mobo, doesn't look like a capacitor or anything went bad, so it doesn't look like something obviously went wrong. anyone else got ideas?

Yes, you can short out 2 of the wires on the power supply and it will startup. I forgot which ones, but I'm sure you can look up "atx connector pinout" on google to get that answer. I'd try that out and make sure it's on. Then, as you stated before, hook up a dvd drive to it and see if will work properly. That will prove that your +12 V is working correct. If you have a multimeter, you can test all of the voltages on your atx connector to verify that your power supply is working properly.

Also, when you stated that you've tried to boot it barebones, what exactly occurs when you press the power button? Does your DVD drives light up? Does your hard drive spin up? Does your keyboard flash? Do your case fans turn on?

Answer those questions and then we can go from there.

Nothing happens. If I understand correctly, it won't POST. Nothing spins, lights up, or moves. I didn't get a chance to do the PSU test, so i'll try that out tomorrow.

so I tested out the psu by connect some optical drives to it and shorting the green and black wires. it turned on, so i decided to connect it to the mobo outside the case. it works with the mobo and the bare minimum. so i turn off the psu, unplug everything to put back into the case, plug things back in, and now nothing happens again. wat do you guys think, faulty power supply?

Could be... Although I had this problem and I eventually found it to be a bad connection in one of my connectors. Test all of your components like you did with your dvd player and verify they all work. Then plug in your motherboard followed by one device at a time. When it refuses to boot, you may have found your culprit.
