Computer won't login or send info

Allrighty guys, I'm stumped.

I'm running a run-of-the-mill Dell Dimension desktop at work (mid-range from about 3-4 years ago) that seems to, all of a sudden, not want to send most information upstream.

-Part of my job requires that I post information to a site via MovableType, which I can't do.

-I also can't log into a number of work-related (though not work-run) websites that require just a basic user/pass.

-I can't search on some webpages (newspaper websites, Anandtech forum), but Google and the like work fine.

-I can log into my Gmail via the web utility (no software clients) and receive e-mail, but cannot send.

-I can log on and post to/update Facebook, but I cannot log on to nor post to, say, LiveJournal.

Basically, my computer is useless for my job, and our IT guy doesn't know any more than I do (we're a real small company with Mickey-Mouse management) and this only started yesterday. Our network is, essentially, a glorified home network (DSL running through a new Linksys routers and switches, maybe an old Netgear hub in one part) that uses K9 Web Protection for both in-house network management (keeping "the kids" off Facebook, porn, etc) and, I believe that also serves as our primary firewall setup (but I may be wrong).

Furthermore, this problem only appears to be affecting MY computer, as everyone else's (including the one I am currently writing from) seems to be fine.

I'm stumped. What do you guys think?

for the intertnet browsing, are you using internet explorer or firefox or some other browser? if you are using internet explorer, try installing firefox, opera, or google chrome and see if the same issues happens with them. Also do spyware/maleware scan on your computer as well. use like malwarebytes or spybot search and destroy.

I knew I was forgetting to mention something.

Here's something else strange. I normally use FF2 but, just to see if it would make a difference, I jumped to FF3. Nothing changed.
However, I tried IE, and, while everything else is the same, I can still (usually) send e-mails.

I've done a virus scan (via AVG) and a spyware clean out (CCleaner) and still, nothing.

Try using System Restore to go back to before this started happening. Any good? 😕

Oh, and clean up your signature's language, please. Sigs have to stay clean here
