Computer Won't Load Windows 7

So I am building a new computer and everything appears to be running just fine. However, when I start my computer it gets all the way up to the point where it says that it is loading Windows and then it resets.

I get a blue screen of death, but before I can even read it the computer restarts.

I am actually using a hard drive that has a 32bit version of Windows 7 installed on it (new computer has an i5 processor). This hard drive was pulled directly from my old computer.

I tried to run the Windows repair, system restore, start in safe mode, etc, but to no avail. I also ran a memory test and everything checked out okay.

Specs:
Intel i5-760
Asus P7P55D-E PRO Motherboard
HIS ATI 5670 1gb Video card
G.SKILL PI 4GB DDR3-1600 Memory

I havent changed anything in the Bios - so it's using the default settings for the mobo.

Any ideas?

Did you just change out your CPU to an i5 or was this hard drive from a completely different pc? If so it's best to reload your OS when putting it into a new machine. I've had decent luck by just throwing any loaded Windows 7 HDD into a new machine. Windows 7 is pretty decent about finding drivers but there always is a chance that it's not finding the drivers and BSOD's out.

I would reload this disk if I were you. If you have critical data on it just load it back into your old PC and transfer it to an external.

Thanks InsomniaHacks - I just picked up a new drive (bigger and faster) and figure I'll attempt to install Windows 7 on that and take it from there. Then I'll transfer over docs, etc. Crossing my fingers here!

main thing that would cause that behavior other than just completely dissimilar hardware would be SATA emulation mode in the BIOS if it is not set EXACTLY as it was when that drive was imaged it will do exactly what you are describing.
make sure to try both AHCI and SATA modes.

AHCI is much faster interface and may not be the default on a new motherboard but should be set before a windows 7 x64 installation is attempted.

I just loaded up a fresh install of Windows 7. I'm sure that there may have been another way if I loaded all new drivers and all during the installation, but it was easiest for me to just start with a fresh install.

I see you got the problem solved . Just to let everyone else that reads this post know . I had the same problem with my brothers computer yesterday . Vista stop working , and the disk of vista I tried to use to reinstall wouldn't install . Something happened to the original disk for the computer I was using . I was able to install windows 7 ( 3 ) different times with full success . The hard drive checked out to be ok too. Glad to see you got fixed with out having to lay out more money for a new hard drive.
