Computer won't go pass bios splash screen

So everything in my computer was working fine last night, and I turned it off. This morning when I try and turn on my computer, it would power on, show the motherboard splash image screen, but won?t get pass that. I also notice that when turning on my computer, it does not make the standard (hmm hmm hrrrmm) noise it usually does before going to the Windows XP screen. Another thing to note, is that I can?t get into the bios screen for some reason nor see the status of IDE boot or memory check.

Sorry I don?t remember the exact specs of my computer at the moment. But I am running an ASUS board, with a Pentium 4 2.4ghz cpu. Any help is well appreciated of what might be the culprit.
 
I can't check my system until later tonight when I get home. But as I recall, I heard the cd-rom and hard drive power on. I also managed to open and close the cd-rom drive.

Right now I?m thinking some possible problems might be:

1) Motherboard
2) CPU
3) RAM ( I did upgrade from 768MB of Crucial to 2gigs worth of Kingston)

Again, these are some of my thoughts but I would like some other opinions of what it might be specifically.
 
Yeah I considered the RAM to be a problem. It took me a few times for my computer to work when I first installed the RAM. I had to take it out, swap it with my old RAM, and eventually it worked. Thanks, I'll try swapping RAM again later.
 
Make sure your drives are being recognized by the BIOS.

The BIOS can hang for ages if you have a bad drive or drives.

A recent system I repaired had both a bad floppy and a flaky optical drive. The optical would sometimes be recognized and sometimes not.

Disconnecting each drive and booting will tell you which is the culprit.

Edit: Just read your post completely as I should have the first time through. You can't even see the BIOS screen. Doh! Although a bad keyboard or PS2 port could be the problem in that case.
 
could be HD.. sounds like it is stalling when detecting a device. see if you can get into the bios and see what is being detected.
